At the Resilient Broward Event, Anya Freeman (Kind Designs) and Fredrik Wannius (1Print) shared how technology and innovation are transforming industries—from advanced manufacturing to sustainable infrastructure. Sharing TechGateway with college students is what we call a Win-Win. South Florida’s future workforce depends on strong talent pipelines, ensuring students connect with opportunities that align with industry needs. Miami Dade College students explored how the TechGateway dynamic map helps them do just that—searching for companies, exploring career pages, and seeing the region’s growing tech ecosystem in action. It was also a chance to share the pilot project with Beth Elletson’s startup, Abe.work, which helps people take charge of their career paths in a way that benefits both job seekers and businesses. Abe isn’t just about filling positions—it’s about making sure the right people connect with the right opportunities. Abe helps individuals take ownership of their career paths while giving businesses a clearer picture of the person behind the resume, strengthening talent pipelines and leading to better long-term success for both. For students, that means a clearer path to careers that match their skills, interests, and goals—so they can work in the cloud, live in the sun?. This week we’re Highlighting 1Print and Fredrik Wannius for Driving Innovation in 3D Concrete Printing & Sustainable Infrastructure: Fredrik Wannius entered the world of 3D concrete printing in 2020, determined to push the boundaries of innovation. By 2022, he partnered with Adam Friedman and investor Francis Greenburger (founder of Time Equities) to launch 1Print, introducing new intellectual property and product categories designed to surpass conventional precast methods. Since then, 1Print has rapidly expanded in South Florida, focusing on coastal resiliency with SEAHIVE?, a cutting-edge, bio-enhancing coastal protection system developed by the University of Miami. SEAHIVE? mitigates wave energy, restores marine ecosystems, and fosters biodiversity through its innovative hexagonal design. In 2024, 1Print took another leap forward with the launch of 1Print Construction, bringing 3D printing technology to commercial and residential building projects—setting a new standard for sustainable infrastructure. Beyond construction, 1Print plays a key role in supporting universities and the Department of Defense, helping them select the right equipment and materials for concrete 3D printing, further advancing the field. Fredrik is passionate about combining technology with environmental impact, ensuring that innovation contributes to a more resilient, sustainable future. It's been ten years since I had my first 3D printer in the classroom. Seeing this industrial-sized machine at 1Print, part of the South Florida TechGateway, is a reminder of how far 3D printing technology has come. Just amazing to see in action. Located in City of Pompano Beach, 1Print is revolutionizing industries through advanced 3D concrete printing technology. From transforming real estate with scalable housing solutions to enhancing coastal infrastructure with nature-based designs, they are paving the way for innovation. Their offerings include equipment, training, and materials to support cutting-edge applications in construction and sustainability. It’s inspiring to see such impactful innovation right here in South Florida.
