Big changes are coming for NIH-funded research—and if you’re in the grant world, you’ll want to pay attention. ?? What’s happening? #NIH is setting a standard 15% indirect cost rate on all new and existing research grants, moving away from previously negotiated rates. ?? Why the change? The goal is to allocate more funds directly to research while reducing administrative overhead, following a model similar to private foundations like the Gates Foundation. ?? What does this mean? Transparency, efficiency, and a shift in how institutions budget for administrative functions tied to federally funded projects. NIH will also publicly share its decision-making criteria for any deviations from the new rate.
