??? YACHAY: Celebrating Latino Minds Recap ??? We put in our all to make our Yachay event at Alley Theatre a huge success and we're so happy for the incredible feedback we're receiving. We kicked things off with a live neurotechnology experiment, featuring our dancer, M. Gabriela Estrada, Ph.D., and our guitarist, Brian Rincon, connected to EEG caps that visualized their brainwave activity while they performed together. Dr. Jose L Contreras-Vidal, Ph.D. guided us through the science behind their brain activity and how our minds engage through artistic expression—an incredible insight into the connection between art and neuroscience. AND this experiment would not have been possible without his incredible team of ?? phD students! Maxine Annel Pacheco Ramírez, Aime J. Aguilar-Herrera, Yoshua E. Lima-Carmona, Claudia Rebeca De Stefano Ramos, and Diego Caro López Then, we moved into a panel discussion led by ALMAAHH President, Carlos Duarte on the intersection of art and technology, where our experts explored what the future holds for tech, how art makes these advances more accessible, and the critical role Latinos play in shaping these fields. Things got even more exciting after intermission! We kicked it off with a ?? Spanish Spelling Bee, where participants representing Colombia, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Venezuela went head-to-head spelling some challenging science terms. The audience even jumped in to help define and pronounce the tougher words, making it one of the highlights of the event! ?? Congrats Juan Pablo Bohorquez on being Yachay's First Ever Spelling Bee Campeon! Next, we held a trivia game that split the room into two teams to compete in testing their knowledge of Latin American history, culture, and innovation. It was a great way to get the crowd involved and celebrate Latin American achievements. Fernando Moguel not only wowed us on the piano during the neurotech performance but also brought the energy during the Spanish Spelling Bee and trivia game with his fun, improvised game show sounds. We closed out with a keynote from Esteban Montero of Holon Labs Foundation, who delivered a powerful talk about technology and collective thinking. Special thanks to our volunteers and the TECH23 community that made this event possible. And a heartfelt thank you to our sponsors like AARP Houston and Chevron’s SOMOS Employee Network, whose support helped make Yachay a success. This event wasn't just a celebration—it was a reminder of the deep connections between art, technology, and collective wisdom. Here's to the brilliant Latino minds shaping tomorrow! #Yachay #LatinosInSTEM #LatinosInTech #TECH23 #HispanicHeritageMonth
