Unless we confront the ableism in our collective understanding of intelligence and work with the disability community to shape #AI, emerging technologies will create harm that more critical reflection could have prevented, writes Ian Moura.
关于我们
Our goal is to provoke new ideas, debate and discussion at the intersection of technology, democracy and policy, with a particular focus on: ? Concentrations of power: the interaction of tech platforms, governments and the media and the future of the public sphere; ? Geopolitics of technology: how nation states approach technology in the pursuit of advantage; ? Technology and the economy: the relationship between markets, business, and labor; ? Racism, bigotry, violence & oppression: how tech exacerbates or solves such challenges; ? Ethics of Technology: how technology should be viewed alongside existing democratic ethos, especially with regard to privacy, surveillance and personal freedoms; ? Election integrity & participation: mechanisms of democracy, problems such as disinformation and how citizens come to consensus.

Fundamentally, we all want to keep ourselves and our family safe, we want to maintain some level of privacy, we want our technology to recognize our unique identities, we want access to trustworthy information, and we want it to support our economic opportunities. As “by design” movements have taught us, technology can reach its greatest innovative potential while recognizing the people it serves and guarding against potential harms. Prioritizing and incentivizing “information quality by design” is our opportunity to better align our technology and our values. We often rely heavily on the role of government to promote and enshrine values in policy but the information ecosystem is an opportunity for industry to lead that effort by reorienting itself to promote information quality by design.
Information integrity deserves fierce advocacy from governments, the intellectual ingenuity of civil society, and the creative muscle of industry. It should be the next "by design" movement, writes Camille Stewart Gloster, Esq.

Artificial intelligence poses significant threats to #democracy, but even as such threats merit serious responses, insufficient attention is given to its positive contributions to citizen participation in politics and its potential to bolster pro-democracy efforts, write Daniel Calingaert and Vukasin Petrovic.

Keith Porcaro argues that fake robot lawyers prey on the desperate. Repairing people's trust in the law doesn't need superintelligence; it just needs legal institutions redesigned for a low-lawyer reality.
