Honoring Floyd Crawford: A Legacy of Loyalty and Dedication ??? Loyalty, dedication, and resilience defined Floyd Crawford. Originally from Cooleemee, North Carolina, Floyd’s journey to Cincinnati may be unknown, but his impact on Planes Moving & Storage is undeniable. As the company’s first non-family employee, Floyd showed up every day in a white shirt, bowtie, dress pants, dress shoes, and a leather apron—always professional, always committed. When John A. Planes was called to serve in the military, Floyd and Martha Planes led the company through challenging times. His promise to Martha—“Miss Martha, I will never leave you”—was one he kept for a lifetime. Despite having no formal education or even a driver’s license, Floyd became a mentor, training John J. Planes and Carl DeBlasio in the art of the moving business. While the 1950s census may have listed him simply as “a moving man,” to the Planes family, he was much more—one of the true unsung heroes of their legacy. This Black History Month, we honor Floyd Crawford—a man whose unwavering dedication helped shape our company and whose legacy continues to inspire.
