Celebrating Innovation - International Programmers' Day! ?? Do we really need another programming language? Absolutely—when it’s built to target, and transform, robotics and control systems! This is the vision shared by Dr. Klas Nilsson of Cognibotics and Kan Wu from Estun Automation. ?? This past JuliaCon 2024, we introduced Juliet&Romeo?, after a couple of years in the making, designed specifically for robots and control systems. We’re not just celebrating a new language; we're celebrating a leap towards more innovative and efficient programming and automation, in real time. ?? Join us in embracing this breakthrough! Let’s push the boundaries of what’s possible together. As Mark Twain famously said, “They did not know it was impossible, so they did it.” https://lnkd.in/dhzGuVdv #robotics #automation #InternationalProgrammersDay (Sept 12, 2024) #julia #motioncontrol #robots #easeofuse

One of the best parts of #JuliaCon is getting to recognize community members like Guillaume Dalle for their hard work throughout the last year. Thank you for your contributions!
I'm very proud to have received the Julia Community Prize 2024 for my contributions to the open source ecosystem, both technical and pedagogical. Many thanks to the organizers of JuliaCon 2024 (which was an absolute blast), and a special thought to my friends Adrian Hill and Martin S., without whom these projects would have stayed a pipe dream. Good research needs good software tools, and that's what we're trying to create. If you're curious about The Julia Language or want to collaborate, please reach out! #JuliaCon2024 was just a few weeks ago. Yet there are already so many new developments in #julialang to hear about! Checkout this 6x speed up in #CasADi by using MadNLP.jl.
julia solvers and casadi, first contact ?? The #julialang ecosystem is bustling with innovation. A growing segment of math PhDs encode their algorithmic advances in numerical optimization in Julia instead of the classics (C, C++ or Fortran). As a CasADi user, you can soon tap right into these solver algorithms, from your normal Python or Matlab environment. As a proof of concept, we looked at MadNLP. This solver is inspired by Ipopt, but has the ability to factorize the linear system on the GPU (via cuDSS), leading to order of magnitude speedups for large-scale optimal control. Tommaso Sartor (a freelancer) paired up with me to get the experiment going: with PackageCompiler.jl we created a lightweight C-wrapper around NLPModels.jl in the form of a 'madnlp_c' shared library. CasADi's main branch is ready to interact with that library. There are quite some loose ends still regarding the madnlp_c library, e.g. only binaries for linux, some configurations crash, no print redirection, ... Still, feel free to try it out, and for sure reach out to us if you are in a position to sponsor further development of this bridge. The screenshot below comes from a 17k-variable lifted Runge Kutta scheme for optimal control at https://lnkd.in/edANBmmf, where a nice 6x speedup is achieved with a MadNLP+cuDSS backend wrt an Ipopt+mumps backend.

I wanted to share that I'm very proud of JuliaCon 2024 and PyData Eindhoven 2024 that we organized at the Philips Stadium last week. ??? From my perspective as an organizer and sports enthusiast, it was amazing and one of the cooler things I got to be part of over the past years. Some personal highlights: - We had a daycare service. - There was a PySport track that combined data and sports. - The food was great. - High-quality talks. - ?? I got to open the Wednesday on the mainstage and was allowed to hold the Eredivisie trophy. Something I'll never forget. - We witnessed the very rare event of not having grass in the stadium and got some of the championship grass as a present! - We had an awesome team of > 50 volunteers - About 800 people attended - Got our Eyedle logo all around the stadium led boarding ?? I wanted to thank all the organizers, volunteers, speakers and sponsors involved in making this a reality. We couldn’t have done this without you. Gareth Thomas Alma Liezenga Rob de Wit ?? Gijs van Weert Koen Vossen Jorge Vieyra Dmitry Bagaev Max van Dijk Jér?me Carnis Long Chen Juul van der Velden Joris Bekkers Erwin Hoogerwoord Mark Kittisopikul, Ph.D. Samina Trachier and many others!

Check out this #JuliaCon2024 live stream clip of Sara Wirsing and Helmut H?nsel from Merck Group talking about "GreenSpeed: Sustainable Chemical Synthesis Right from the Start". https://lnkd.in/er7tHRdT
Introducing some "Greenness" to the stadium of PSV Eindhoven! ?? Last week, Helmut Haensel and I had a great time presenting our App GreenSpeed on the big stage of JuliaCon 2024. We developed GreenSpeed to enable the design of more sustainable processes within Merck Gruppe using The Julia Language. A big thank you to the whole Speed team for the opportunity to work with you, the JuliaCon organizers for such a great event (despite the missing gras ??) and to the Genie team for their awesome open source web-framework, the pictures and for the fun time!
