Team Up Philly empowers girls in under-served Philadelphia neighborhoods to lead healthy, confident and successful lives through sports and enrichment programs. We work with girls in 4th-12th grades and offer programs that combine athletics, character development, fitness & nutrition education, leadership training and academic support. Our programs take place after school in West Philly and virtually, via Zoom. We fundraise all year long to provide programs free of charge. We take a comprehensive, long-term approach, combining sports, academic support, character development, nutrition and leadership training with mentoring from caring coaches and tutors. Our chief focus is on empowering girls in their critical adolescent and teen years to grow stronger, healthier, more confident and capable while supporting each other as part of a team, learning to stand for themselves and with each other.

Join us as we honor Dr. Nikki Franke as our Hero of the year, at our annual benefit and celebration Thursday, May 2nd. Dr. Nikki Franke was a member of the 1976 and 1980 U.S. Olympic Fencing teams and was the USA Fencing National Foil Champion in 1975 and 1980. Coach launched Temple’s women’s fencing team from scratch, building a club team into an NCAA Division I powerhouse. During her 50 years of coaching, she amassed 898 victories, making her one of the winningest collegiate coaches in fencing history. She was the first and only Black female Head Coach of an NCAA Division I fencing program when she retired in 2022. Franke received her Master’s and Doctorate Degrees from Temple University, and is an Associate Professor Emerita in Temple University’s College of Public Health, where she taught for more than forty years. Dr. Franke also co-founded the Black Women in Sport Foundation which focuses on introducing youth to non-traditional sports and mentoring women of color involved in all aspects of sport. She has been inducted into five Halls of Fame and received numerous honors for her trailblazing and successful career.
