Interestingly, I ran into a former nurse now working in corporate health tech, and almost everyone I spoke with knew a nurse or had a family member in nursing, fully understanding the problem we need to address! I see this as a positive sign that, together, we can drive better outcomes for the future of our profession and ultimately make a meaningful impact on our patients and communities! Seasoned nurses don’t expect new nurses to be proficient— They cultivate their skills and knowledge as a preceptor. This is why one of the most valuable qualities a nurse can have is the ability to teach. When nurses teach, they help new nurses grow and develop their clinical skills. These individuals are then more likely to become educators and leaders themselves, creating a continuous cycle of professional development and excellence in nursing. So, how can our healthcare systems develop nurses in this way? In a recent Becker's Healthcare Clinical Leadership article, Marie Foley-Danecker DNP, RN, CCRN, NE-BE emphasized: “It's not just about hiring a nurse for today. Growth must be the expectation. Do we have the support and resources in place to help nurses grow, so we can retain them, no matter what specialty or area of practice they move into?” With many experienced nurses retiring, it’s crucial that the next generation taps into this invaluable knowledge. Mentorship—whether through precepting, teaching, coaching, or tutoring—enables this transfer of wisdom. Nurses, with their wealth of experience, are uniquely positioned to lead and guide their peers through career transitions and advancements. TeachRN is being developed with this mission in mind. It empowers nurses to give back to their colleagues in meaningful and fulfilling ways, enabling them to mentor, inspire, and uplift others, all while providing an opportunity to earn additional income. By creating a marketplace where #nurses can share their expertise with the broader community, TeachRN ensures that knowledge isn’t confined to specific hospitals or units—it’s shared far and wide, strengthening the profession and communities as a whole. If you are a thought leader in this space, I’d love to connect ??. If you are interested in learning more about TeachRN, I would love to share more. With all the #nurseinnovation happening, I’m excited for the future of our profession and the impact we’ll have on our #healthcare communities. Thank you Marie Foley-Danecker DNP, RN, CCRN, NE-BE for sharing your insights! ???? #nursesonlinkedin #nurseleaders

Supporting nurses, personal and professional development is the foundation in a strong healthcare system.

Have we been focusing on the wrong things to improve patient outcomes? As a nurse with over 14 years of experience, I've seen countless initiatives aimed at improving patient outcomes, satisfaction, and patient-centered care models. While the intentions behind these initiatives are genuine, I believe we're missing a crucial starting point. The problem? Many of these efforts overlook the foundation of the care team. We place so much emphasis on what patients want and need, yet we fail to invest in what the healthcare team requires to actually deliver these outcomes. Nurses have the largest footprint in healthcare delivery. We are the foundation, the glue that holds the entire process together, playing a pivotal role in delivering quality care to our communities. But how can we continue to do this when the healthcare industry views us more as a cost, a product, or a service to be optimized, rather than as the essential human force we are? Imagine if our healthcare system placed as much emphasis on improving nurse workflows, communication, team-building, and professional development as it does on patient metrics. Empowering nurses with the tools, support, and resources we need would naturally lead to better outcomes for our patients. Instead, we’re asked to do more with less—less support, less time, less of what we truly need to succeed. It’s time for us, as nurses, to come together and take action. We entered this profession to provide high-quality care for our patients, but nurse burnout is crippling our ability to deliver the outcomes we strive for, crushing our career satisfaction and hindering professional development. At TeachRN we are working towards a solution that is nurse-driven and nurse-led. We need a stronger foundation—only then can we truly enhance patient satisfaction, outcomes, and the overall quality of healthcare delivery. GOOD TEAM DYNAMICS, RESPECTFUL COMPANY CULTURE, PEER TO PEER SUPPORT SYSTEMS, ACCESS TO CAREER ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES, LEADS TO FULFILLED NURSES WHICH LEADS TO BETTER HEALTHCARE OUTCOMES. #healthcare #nurses #nurseleadership #nursesoflinkedin #nurseburnout

"But did you die?" This cheeky phrase resonates deeply with how nurses often approach medical challenges—if it’s not life or death, there’s room to adjust, make decisions, and change the outcome. But do most #nurses apply this mindset to their personal lives? In my experience mentoring thousands of nurses striving to advance their careers, I've noticed that the fear of failure can feel as daunting as death itself. This fear can prevent us from pursuing our dreams, goals, and aspirations. Fear can be so crippling that it keeps us stuck in what's comfortable, familiar, and safe. But before you close the door on your own potential, ask yourself: "Will I die if I don't succeed?" Unless you are tight rope walking-The answer is almost always no. If you don’t succeed, it’s not the end—you won’t die. Instead, you'll have time to figure things out, make adjustments, and try again. So the next time you hesitate to take a chance on yourself, remember this phrase. You might fail, but you might also succeed. And if you fail, you still have life, time, and the ability to change the outcome. Whether you're looking to start a business, break into consulting, explore #medtech, or advance your #nursing #degree, the key is to take action—just start. Embrace the concept of "failing forward"; you'll gain more from your failures than from never trying at all. TeachRN is a community of fellow nurses that are here to help, guide and support you and your ambitions. #advancedpracticenurse #nursesonlinkedin #nurisngstudent #bsn #adn

“Who do you think you are that life should not happen to you?” I needed to hear this. How about you? This article is a great read and reframe of how we should approach challenges in our lives, careers and relationships. I have felt like quitting more times than I want to admit. Sometimes I feel like a fake because on the outside what people see looks great; when in reality I feel like everything is a hurricane and I am standing still in the eye not knowing what to do next. Sometimes I question myself as to who do I think I am to be able to weather this storm and make it out alive. Other times I feel empowered and confident that my reason, passion and why are all I need to juggle this crazy life. I must confess, being an ICU nurse was the darkest, saddest personal experience I’ve ever had yet one that allowed me more freedom and satisfaction in my future career and personal life. I must admit, starting not just one but two businesses, learning the ropes on how to grow and manage a team, read P&Ls, understanding marketing and navigating technology has felt like a monumental task and one I feel sheepishly under qualified for. I don’t always have confidence but I always have why. Thank you Quint Studer for this opportunity to reflect and for sharing your experience. #nursesonlinkedin #nursing #healthcare #business #entrepreneur

Happy Nurses Week, Month and Year!?? appreciated all day - every day

If you had asked me 19 years ago what being a nurse means, I would have been wrong. I chose nursing because I believed it would offer unique human connections and satisfaction from caring for others during critical moments in their lives. I wasn't wrong, but I failed to grasp the full meaning of being a nurse. Being a nurse is about so much more than bedside care, hands-on skills, compassion, and personal connection. It's a privilege to possess life-saving knowledge, an honor to perform meaningful actions for others, a joy to comfort and embrace a stranger, and a responsibility to innovate and grow both personally and professionally. Nursing is far more than what you see on the surface. Nurses change lives; they bring families together and cultivate trust and love, without any expectation of acknowledgment or appreciation. However, nurses are appreciated, loved, and absolutely essential for the well-being of our communities and families. Today, tomorrow, and every day, nurses deserve our gratitude and appreciation. Happy Nurses Week, Month, and Year. #nursesweek2024 #nursesonlinkedin #nurseappreciation #nursing

Entering the world of nursing can often feel like stepping into a high-pressure arena. Many nurses, myself included, have wrestled with self-doubt and the unsettling feeling that we don’t quite measure up to our seasoned colleagues. This is a profound issue that calls for reflection and action. Why do many nurses consider leaving a profession they spent years to achieve and invested tens of thousands of dollars towards their degree? I remember hearing a stereotype in nursing school that as a nurse in training you are among all the type A personalities. Perfectionist, wound-tight and those who constantly compare themselves to others. Why is this? Is it true? Does this stem partly from the high expectations and intense scrutiny we face in healthcare. Perfectionism is prized, and mistakes are often not tolerated, leading to a fear of failure that can stifle growth and innovation. This environment can be daunting for new nurses, who may feel they’re constantly at risk of criticism rather than support. It’s time for a shift. We need to change the narrative and highlight the countless nurses who actively support and nurture their peers. These nurse mentors and role models are indeed everywhere—they might not always be in the limelight, but they create ripples of positive change through their daily actions. Just as we might start noticing a specific car model everywhere after deciding it’s our next purchase, we can also begin to see and appreciate the mentors around us more frequently. It’s about changing our tunnel vision and silence the noise in the media, to seek out those who are already leading by example. In my short time on LinkedIn I have connected with so many inspiring nurses who are passionate about helping our community grow stronger and supporting their peers in any way they can. I have met brilliant non-nurses who are innovating ways to help sustain our healthcare community largely through supporting nurses. With that said… TeachRN is excited to partner with EARN Cares an advocate for nurses, helping them find sustainable careers through a vast network of peer to peer support. I had to the pleasure to get know Ryan Smeets and learn about his mission and his successful model that has lead to long term retention and satisfaction for nurses looking for career opportunities. With TeachRNs mission to support career advancement and growth, we are excited to see what we can achieve together.
