  • Earlier this month, TPP and Preschool for All co-facilitated the second session of an Anti-Bias Professional Development series in partnership with @threadsofjustice, @antibiasleadersece, and Multnomah CCR&R. Together, we engaged with the film Reflecting on Anti-Bias Education in Action: The Early Years and deepened our understanding of the four goals of anti-bias education. Through reflection on our own values, beliefs, and identities, we considered how to bring this work into our classrooms with intention. Educators explored materials and books, designing thoughtful invitations that encourage children to engage in playful inquiry, creating classrooms where identity and justice can take root.? We will meet again on April 5th for our next and final session, facilitated by specials guests and filmmakers John Nimmo and Debbie LeeKeenan, we hope to see you there! #teachingpreschoolpartners #antibiasfilm

  • Kristi first met Christyn (One of the Co-Directors of TPP) in the height of the pandemic when they were both doing work around play in Oregon. For Kristi, it was admiration, and dare we say, love at first zoom. Christyn is incredibly accomplished, brilliant and joyful. She has a Ph.D focused on the role of language comprehension in early literacy, has been a teacher of very littles and very bigs, and has supported teachers in the adoption of playful early childhood practices. The teachers she works with are transformed.(Click on the link to keep reading this article) #teachingpreschoolpartners https://lnkd.in/g92jvsYh

  • This month, we gathered at a Parkrose Preschool for our monthly Teacher Collaboration meeting. Danielle and Clare hosted us in their classroom, guiding us through an exploration of their space. As we observed and discussed, Danielle shared insights into how children are actively present in their classroom environment. Inspired by the co-created portrait project documentation by teachers and coach, Gabi, our group delved into the possibilities of exploring identity with young children. We reflected on how different materials used in portraiture can encourage children to notice details about themselves and focus their attention in unique ways. The discussion expanded to how projects focused on identity can inspire children to shift perspectives, sparking meaningful conversations about caring for their community, the passage of time, transformation, change, and questions of origin - Where do we come from? Where are we going? Another area of reflection for the group was centered on friendships in the classroom and the language we use as educators. What do we call the children in our care - friends, family, classmates, community? How does this choice of language shape their understanding of community and belonging? The group also expressed curiosity about what are children’s theories of friendship, and how these relationships take shape. We considered the educator’s role in supporting children as they navigate relationships and the tensions that arise. How can we unpack the idea of friendship more deeply? How are children organizing themselves? #teachingpreschoolpartners
