Girls DO love math! They also love getting paid for it. Solving a $500 bonus question on a 2022 high school math contest, Louisiana students Calcea Johnson and Ne’Kiya Jackson were the first to prove the 2,500-year-old Pythagorean Theorem using the trigonometric Law of Sines. Now freshmen at Louisiana State University and Xavier University, the pair have published a peer-reviewed paper in The American Mathematical Monthly, proving their Law of Sines method and adding nine more proofs to their original discovery. Johnson and Jackson identified and separated two different ways to prove trigonometric terms, enabling them to eliminate circular reasoning from existing proofs. Look out, trig is going to start making sense now! Read "Two Teens Used Trigonometry to Prove the Pythagorean Theorem After So Many Experts Couldn't. Then, they wrote nine more proofs."
