I'm thrilled to share that Tennessee Tourism was the only state in the country to take home two Mercury Awards at U.S. Travel’s annual ESTO Awards ceremony last night in Columbus! This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and excellence of the incredible team at the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development alongside our agency partner, VML. Led by Assistant Commissioner of Marketing Debra Smith and Assistant Commissioner of Rural Tourism and Outreach Melanie Beauchamp, our team is passionate about serving an amazing industry that continues to deliver outstanding results for our state. ?? Exciting News for Tennessee! ?? Tennessee tourism has reached new heights with a record $30.6 billion in direct visitor spending and 144 million visitors in 2023! ?? According to Tourism Economics and the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, that's a 6.2% increase in spending and marks a 125% recovery over pre-pandemic levels. Governor Bill Lee highlights, "When tourism grows, Tennessee reaps the benefit with increased sales tax revenue. Tourism boosts local economies, supports businesses and jobs, funds public services and creates a better quality of life for all Tennesseans. We welcome visitors from around the world to experience Tennessee's music, scenic outdoor beauty, culture and food from Mountain City to Memphis." ?? Key Highlights: - $30.6 billion in direct visitor spending in 2023, up 25% over two years - - Visitors spent $84 million each day in 2023 - $3.2 billion in direct state and local tax revenues, saving each TN household $1,160 annually - Sustained 191,522 direct jobs, with employment supported by visitor activity up 3% in 2023 - Domestic visitor spending at 127% recovery, international at 81.6% Tennessee, your hard work and hospitality shine through! ?? The painting of the “Freedom Silo – Tiptonville” begins in Tiptonville, TN! ?????? A historic 90’ tall grain silo will soon feature an American flag and eagle mural by renowned muralist Farley Lewis and his son, Andrew. This project, led by Raine W. Clotfelter and Katrina Greer of the Reelfoot Lake Tourism Council, aims to boost tourism in the Reelfoot Lake area. Inspired by Reelfoot Lake’s eagle nests, the 70’x80’ mural design was developed with the help of Tiptonville Mayor Cliff Berry, Jr, and the Tennessee Department of Tourism Development. Farley Lewis, known for his murals worldwide, is bringing his unique touch to this project. ?? Lake County, with its rich agricultural history, is excited to add this artistic landmark. The silos, built in 1965, hold stories of the region’s legacy. ???? Come watch this mural take shape over the next few months and enjoy the serenity, wildlife, and outdoor activities of our beautiful rural area.
