Earlier this week, CIPL Director of Privacy and Data Policy, Matthew R. joined a panel on ‘AI Governance on the Ground: What We Know’ at The Ohio State University Translational Data Analytics Institute (TDAI) Interdisciplinary Research Fall Forum alongside experts Müge Fazlioglu, Ph.D. (IAPP), Dennis Hirsch (The Ohio State University) and Shontael Starry (Nationwide). Highlights from the discussion: - Professor Hirsch noted that while Responsible AI Management (RAIM) practices are expanding, AI governance standards in the U.S. remain largely voluntary, making business value a key driver for private sector adoption. - Muge Fazlioglu shared that AI governance has become a top strategic priority for many companies, with privacy professionals shouldering much of this responsibility. - Matthew shared findings from CIPL’s report on building accountable AI programs – including a mapping of key AI governance practices with the CIPL Accountability Framework. - Shontael Starry emphasized the importance of diverse, technically skilled teams in navigating AI’s ethical complexities.
