We're building on our principles of community engagement by sharing a practical way funders can respond to local voices in the grantmaking process- external review committees made up of community members. Erica Weinberg and Annie Zhou explore learnings from their experience partnering with a healthcare funder to establish seven community review committees. These 24 committee members evaluated 300 funding proposals, helping direct $18 million toward projects with the greatest potential for impact. We're thrilled that TCC-er Marysol Fernandez Harvey is on the ground at Race Forward's Facing Race and diving into conversations around advancing racial equity. Looking forward to hearing more great nuggets over the next two days! #OurPowerOurSolutions #FacingRace
Excited to be at The Facing Race Conference in St Louis with Race Forward building solidarity across the movement for a multiracial democracy. A nugget from todays opening panel I am taking with me: It is the time to build deep solidarity, that acknowledges our differences as part of our strength and that works to build a clear and compelling vision of our collective future. Looking forward to two days of programming. #OurPowerOurSolutions #FacingRace

We're back from a whirlwind few days at Exponent Philanthropy's Annual Conference and feeling energized by all the great conversations we were a part of! Some highlights: ?? Hearing powerful, real-life examples of how large unrestricted grants enabled investment in organizational strategy?and staff wellbeing to ultimately better serve the community from Joycelyn Jurado at St. David's Foundation and Sharon Vigil of Communities In Schools of Central Texas. ?? Eagerly anticipating Center for Effective Philanthropy's upcoming report on ?“The MacKenzie Scott Effect". ?? Attending a dine-around hosted by Patty McIlreavy of the Center for Disaster Philanthropy where we discussed how everyone could be a disaster philanthropist by helping communities and people in disaster-prone areas build back better – or build better. We're leaving with fresh perspectives and new connections, and looking forward to keeping the learning going.

TCC-er Jared Raynor is sharing his reflections from Day 2 of the Grantmakers In Health Health Policy Exchange - which couldn't have come at a better time. We echo his call to #funders to protect public health and continue driving health equity forward by engaging in #legaladvocacy. Watch our primer here https://lnkd.in/eeaYjBsn
Funders: support legal advocacy! I’ve had the privilege to be with a passionate group of people at the Grantmakers In Health Health Policy Exchange to start this week.?Among many topics, I was delighted with the full session on legal advocacy.?Skye Perryman (she/her) from the Democracy Forward Foundation (who are doing amazing work) emphasized that regardless of beliefs about the courts, if you don’t include #legaladvocacy you are ceding huge ground in the effort to advance good health policy.?A few years back, I was able to do some interesting research and thinking as part of the #AtlasLearningProject, an initiative of The Atlantic Philanthropies, on legal advocacy.?The effort resulted in a number of papers, including a fascinating look at the status of the courts for social justice by the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights, a guide for funders that included at least 16 different things that they could support as part of legal advocacy that are in addition to actual litigation, and a guide for #evaluation.?Those resources are available here: https://lnkd.in/ekST9a6T.?One of the most exciting parts of that project was an incredible video that is a great cheerleading piece for funders to get involved with legal advocacy.???https://lnkd.in/eNgJGNzc TCC Group

With a new administration entering the White House in January, philanthropy is approaching a crucial crossroads. That is why we feel privileged to have TCC-er Jared Raynor at the Grantmakers In Health Policy Exchange 2024, sharing insights with colleagues about the work that needs to be done right now and moving forward.? Some highlights from Day One: ?? Listening to J. Nadine Gracia from Trust for America's Health discuss a blueprint for strengthening public health, which outlines six priorities for the next administration. As an #evaluator, the final priority of protecting scientific integrity resonates especially strongly. ?? The reminder by Adriane Casalotti, Chief of Government and Public Affairs at NACCHO of the necessity of philanthropy’s voice in protecting public health agency authority from being stripped away and responding to crises. ?? "Philanthropy can bring people together that would never otherwise sit at a table together" Irfan Hasan of The New York Community Trust. ?? It's not just policy, but how we communicate it- David Jordan, President of the United Methodist Health Ministry Fund advised that one of the most important things to think about is not simply the message, but where we deliver it. Looking forward to seeing what Day Two brings! #PublicHealth #Evaluation #Philanthropy #StrategicCommunications?
