In the last few years, syphilis has increased 3X for everyone and 7x for congenital syphilis, meaning it’s passed on to the baby during pregnancy. This is especially concerning because congenital syphilis can cause infants to develop defects and permanent disabilities, and infant mortality. That’s why we encourage everyone, including pregnant people, to get tested for syphilis (and all STIs) routinely to help people stay proactive in prioritizing their sexual health and catch infections early so they can receive the right treatment for them.
