BIG NEWS: Gov. Wes Moore announced today that the Port of Baltimore handled 45.9 million tons of cargo in 2024, marking the second-best year in the port’s history, just behind the record-breaking 2023 total of 52.3 million tons. “The Port of Baltimore is one of the top ports in the nation and one of Maryland’s leading economic generators,” said Gov. Moore. “These numbers reveal the hard work happening at the Port to finish the year strong, despite a challenging start. We are especially grateful to our Port’s workers, whose indomitable spirit and dedication brought us to this moment. Our administration will continue to promote our great port with infrastructure investments that will help grow business and create additional jobs.” More than 25.5 million tons moved through the port in the last six months, with the total cargo value for the year reaching $62.2 billion, the third-highest ever. Baltimore also finished first again among all U.S. ports for roll on/roll off farm and construction machinery, along with imported forest products and imported gypsum. Baltimore finished second overall in handling cars and light trucks, with nearly 750,000 total. Overall, the Port of Baltimore finished 10th in the total dollar value of its cargo and 11th for cargo tonnage among all ports. “Our terminal operators, private facilities, outstanding INTERNATIONAL LONGSHOREMENS ASSOC labor, and incredible supply chain partners are primed and ready to make 2025 a very successful year,” said Maryland Port Administration Executive Director Jonathan Daniels. https://lnkd.in/eaX82VaM
