??Women in Music Spotlight: Chanell Crichlow?? Chanell Crichlow is a low brass multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator based in Los Angeles, California. She founded PitchBlak Brass Band in 2010, helping launch a vibrant brass band movement in New York City. The band received recognition from Downbeat and The Source magazines. As a 2021 Sundance Composers Lab Fellow, Chanell worked closely with top film and TV composers, refining her skills for the screen. She’s performed with artists like Solange, Andy Grammer, and Pharoahe Monch, and has released projects under the name tubafresh, blending jazz-pop and tuba with electronic effects. Chanell holds a Master’s in Classical Tuba Performance from Pennsylvania State University and a Bachelor’s from The Manhattan School of Music. #WomenInMusic #Tubist #Composer #Instrumentalist #MusicInnovation

" ??Women in Music Spotlight: Lois Wiggins?? Lois Wiggins, a retired band director with 33 years of experience across Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana, most recently served as Band Director at Edythe J. Hayes Middle School in Lexington, Kentucky. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Austin Peay State University, a Master of Music Education from the University of Georgia, and a Rank I in Secondary Education from Western Kentucky University. Lois has been a leader in the music education community, serving as Kentucky Music Educators Association State Band Chair in 2015-16 and as Band Content Area Leader for Fayette County Public Schools for 10 years. She has also been a member and Associate Conductor of the Lexington Brass Band and currently co-conducts the Central Kentucky Youth Repertory Orchestra while teaching part-time at the University of Kentucky. A member of the Association of Black Women Band Directors and the Women Band Directors National Association, Lois was named a 2016 Grammy Music Educator Award National Finalist, received the International Women’s Brass Conference “Beacon Award” in 2015, and was honored with the KMEA Middle School Teacher of the Year award in 2000.
