Are you a farmer with a signed contract with USDA for funding under programs including EQIP, CSP, or REAP?* Are you an organization with a signed grant contract under USDA RMA?* If so, and you are dealing with frozen funding, agency inaction, or have received a letter of termination, filing an NAD appeal or demand letter may help preserve your right to recover through a lawsuit. Farm Commons is hosting a FREE 75-minute webinar on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 10 AM CT to help farmers and organizations discover: ?Who might need to file an appeal, ?What filing an appeal achieves, and; ?How to file an appeal with NAD. Facilitated by Farm Commons' Executive Director, Rachel Armstrong, Esq., and Farm Commons' Associate Director and Attorney, Erin Hannum, Esq., this webinar explains and expands on the two recent guides they wrote on the role of filing an NAD appeal for farmers and Farm Commons' forthcoming guide for nonprofits. Please join us to learn more about how Farm Commons, as well as other people and organizations, can support you in this difficult time. Register today here: https://lnkd.in/eyMXqvia *Other applicable programs may include contracts or loans through RCPP, ARC, PLC, CRP, and NAP and grant contracts through AMS, RBCS, and NIFA. . . . #federalfundingfreeze #farmbusinesses #farmers #farming #USDAgrants

Perhaps the most beautiful thing about our community that is advocating for a better food system is the way it rallies around farmers who are facing extreme challenges. The current crisis — stemming from the new administration's abrupt actions to freeze or terminate contracted federal funding to a wide swath of farmers — is already spurring generous efforts to help. On Saturday, I learned about the emergency Regenerative Farmer Assurance Fund (RFAF) established by Healing Soils Foundation, a Chicago-based non-profit. The fund offers up to $50,000 each in bridge loan funding to Midwest organic and regenerative farmers who are facing federal reimbursement delays. The loan is to be repaid only when/if a farm receives its federal reimbursement. This Local Food Forum article provides all the details from the organization, with a link to apply. The Healing Soils Foundation is the charitable affiliate of Iroquois Valley Farmland REIT founded by Dr. Stephen Rivard and David Miller to further address the needs and hurdles faced by farmers implementing organic and regenerative principles. I have a strong connection to the great work of this company, which buys farmland to keep it in cultivation and works with farmers to transition it to organic: My wife and I sold her family's farm in Illinois to Iroquois Valley way back in 2012. https://lnkd.in/gGYGTpze

  • Did anyone attend Erika’s talk on social media at the Great Lakes Expo last week in Grand Rapids, Michigan? People had great questions and we know social can often feel confusing, but remember: think of it like having a conversation about you and your farm with your most raving fans! They really do want to know about you and what sets you apart! And we’re always here if you need help too. We can provide everything from strategy, to templates, to full social management. P.S. We aren’t sure where the conference hosted the handouts for the talks, but if you need ours simply reach out to Erika at [email protected]. All other downloadable guides can be found under our “resources” tab on LocalFoodMarketing.com

Tricia and Erika had a great time last week in Albuquerque at the National Agricultural Marketing Summit! It was great to see so many partners and friends, and meet new folks as well. We heard from several of you that our presentation on Impact Partnerships was your favorite, so we’ll put a copy of our handout below. We’d love to do a food systems partnership with you in 2025! Thanks to everyone who attended and to everyone who worked so hard to make the event a success. (And thanks to Katie Lavallee for snapping this pic!)
