#TAQA continued its active engagement in week 2 of #COP29, with participation alongside the Mohamed Bin Zayed Water Initiative to address water scarcity, inspiring youth-led sessions at the UAE Pavilion on energy transition skills, and a productive discussion on global reporting standards. TAQA Youth Council members also joined interactive workshops—“Voices of Resilience: Youth Stories from the Climate Frontlines” and “Climate Conversations: Connecting Perspectives for Climate Impact”—bilateral discussions, and a Singapore Pavilion tour, all contributing to the focus on empowering youth for a sustainable future.

#TAQA is proud to partner with the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative (MBZWI) to?address one of today’s most pressing challenges. Our Youth Council Members,?AlReem Alammari?and Tariq Najar, shared insights from grassroots projects they’ve worked on?across climate change, water scarcity, and youth empowerment in the water sector. They actively participated in a Youth Circle organized by MBZWI, contributing to discussions during the youth water consultations and driving forward innovative ideas to combat water scarcity.

I am pleased to share that TAQA Group, in partnership with JERA Co., Inc. and Al Bawani Capital, has signed 25-year power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Principal Buyer | Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) to develop two new combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power projects with combined capacity of 3.6 GW in Rumah and Nairyah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These projects will support Saudi Arabia’s growing power needs and align with its 2030 energy mix ambitions of generating 50% of electricity from highly efficient gas technology and the rest from renewables. With these projects marking our fourth and fifth greenfield projects under development in Saudi Arabia, TAQA is proud to be a trusted partner in the country’s journey to a sustainable energy future. Reflecting on a productive first week at #COP29 in Baku, where #TAQA’s?representatives took part in panel discussions, highlighting the essential role of grid modernization in driving the renewable energy transition. Our conversations focused on innovative financing solutions, innovation and strategic partnerships to accelerate the development of resilient and future-ready infrastructure.

#TAQA and its partners in the Utilities for Net Zero Alliance proudly hosted a key side event at the UAE Pavilion during #COP29. With insights from our Chief Strategy Officer, Noel Aoun, and other leaders, the event focused on transforming global power grids through innovation and highlighted the collaboration and investment needed to achieve a sustainable, net-zero energy future by 2040.

At #COP29, UNEZA’s Leadership Meeting highlighted decisive actions to shape a sustainable energy future. With a collective commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2050, UNEZA is leading this transformation with annual investments of more than $116 billion to expand renewable capacity by 2.6 times by 2030. As the co-chair of the alliance, TAQA, together with other UNEZA members, is advancing cooperation under a high-level statement focused on building a resilient and diverse clean energy technology supply chain. UNEZA has endorsed and is actively implementing the COP29 Global Energy Storage and Grids Pledge, alongside the COP29 Green Energy Pledge to establish Green Energy Zones and Corridors.
