Wood products provide essential building material to so many industries. All of the logs you see here will be used as railroad crossties. ?? Hardwood trees such as red oak, white oak or mixed tie logs (gum, sycamore, hackberry, maple, elm, and locus) are used for crossties. These species offer the durability and resistance to wear and tear that railroad tracks need.
