Late last year, we launched a video series—Creative Recording with Tape Op. Alongside our flagship print magazine, email newsletters, website, and podcast series,?Creative Recording with Tape Op?offers another way to share stories, guidance, and recording insights with our readers as they work to become better engineers, artists, and producers. The first episode,?What Makes a Great Recording, was released with support from our friends at BURL Audio. Enjoy!

The fun story on how #163's cover came to be!
The new Tape Op magazine is in the wild and I’m thrilled to say that I got to provide another illustration for the cover this time round. John at Tape Op asked me work from a photo of a super rare old Neve broadcast mixer with a built in telephone(!) that used to belong to Joel Hamilton. These units were custom made by Neve for the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) back in the 80s (I believe) and have four 34127 modules feeding into a single mono output. This is probably the most detailed illustration I’ve put together yet, and it was loads of fun to work on. A nice surprise to see a little write up about the story behind the art inside the magazine itself, too!
