关于我们
The Taos Institute is a community of scholars and practitioners concerned with the social processes essential for the construction of reason, knowledge, and human value. We are a non-profit (501c3) organization committed to exploring, developing and disseminating ideas and practices that promote creative, appreciative and collaborative processes in families, communities and organizations around the world. Social constructionist theory and practice locates the source of meaning, value and action in the relational connection among people. It is through our social and relational processes that we construct the world. We achieve our educational ends through conferences, workshops, publications, a PhD program, certificate programs, distance learning programs, newsletters, and web-based offerings. We work at the interface between the scholarly community and societal practitioners from communities of mental health, social work, counseling, organizational change, education, community building, gerontology, healthcare and more. We develop and explore the ways in which scholarly research can enrich professional practices, and practices can stimulate scholarly inquiry.

This year marks Ken Gergen's 90th birthday. Friends, colleagues, and students, let's join in the celebration! Please join in this informal online gathering on December 9 to toast Ken with coffee, cake, or your treat of choice as Sheila McNamee hosts Ken in a celebratory conversation. We have created a special space in the Taos Institute Commons online community where you can share how Ken, and/or his work, has impacted your work and life. Post your stories, memories, wishes, videos, images, poems, songs, or whatever form of celebration inspires you! These contributions will be compiled in a printed storybook and presented to Ken as a gift to honor his outstanding contributions and unimaginable impact around the world.

Taos Institute Publications is pleased to share the French translation of Ken Gergen's latest book: Passionate Pursuits. "Le présent ouvrage rassemble les principaux essais d’un psychologue estimé dans le monde entier. Depuis plus de cinquante ans, dans des écrits d’une force créative peu commune, il repousse les limites de la compréhension et invite à de nouvelles pratiques. Dans ce volume, Gergen a sélectionné vingt-deux articles qu’il considère comme les plus significatifs de l’expression de ses passions scientifiques..." In this month's Taos Institute newsletter, Taos Associate Deb Nathan shares... "These are challenging times as we face deep division, both in the United States and around the world. For those of us who work to build bridges between Israeli and Palestinian communities it has been acutely painful. There are over 250 grass-roots organizations that are committed to bringing together Israelis and Palestinians through environmental projects, conversations, social justice, the arts and many other avenues. All are struggling to make sense of and work through an unimaginable reality. The current crisis in the Middle East is tragic both for the extreme violence and loss of life, as well as for the subsequent sense of fear and hopelessness that so many are experiencing. These feelings often lead to a lack of curiosity as we struggle to come to terms with what is happening. Rather than appreciating the complexity of a conflict situation, the response is often to gravitate towards more simplistic responses. What we have seen happening on college campuses in the United States and elsewhere, with protests becoming violent and calls for the destruction of one side or the other is an example of what happens when we seek simplistic answers to complex problems. It often feels easier and safer to gravitate to a particular “side”, refusing to acknowledge the narrative and/or humanity of the other. While this may offer temporary relief and a sense of belonging, it rarely leads to a constructive path forward. The lens of relational construction informs not only my worldview and my practice as a psychotherapist, it also informs my work within areas of conflict, such as the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. The organization I created in 2008, Artsbridge, is informed by relational constructionist ideas. Through Artsbridge, Israeli and Palestinian teens have come together over the years to learn how to engage constructively through Transformative Reflecting Dialogue and collaborative art projects..."
