Bonnie Boles, MD, MBA, CHCIO, FCCP, senior vice president and chief medical information officer for Tanner Health, took the system's leadership and physicians on a journey into the future use of artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare during a Thursday, Oct. 31, breakfast — one of Tanner's events celebrating its 75th anniversary. Her presentation, "Pioneering Health Care: Exploring AI," explored the evolving and groundbreaking landscape of AI, the distinct roles of generative AI, machine learning, large language models and how each is reshaping the medical world. Providers received a continuing medical education (CME) credit for attending. Boles' excellent and engaging presentation highlighted a future where AI not only interprets EKGs with precision but also revolutionizes imaging and pathology interpretation. Her presentation also detailed: how drone delivery is transforming access to pharmaceuticals and healthcare supplies; how robots will soon take on key retrieval tasks, freeing up healthcare workers to focus on patients; and how in hospitals of the future nurses will be able to spend more time at the bedside, while AI and robotics handle pharmacy runs and blood bank trips. "This is an exciting, fast-paced revolution," said Dr. Boles. ??IMPORTANT UPDATE ?? You might have seen in recent news that Tanner Health is moving out-of-network for the Humana Medicare Advantage PPO plan. While we will transition away from this Humana plan effective Jan. 1, we are committed to expanding access and offering more comprehensive healthcare services throughout west Georgia and east Alabama. Despite no longer participating in the Humana Medicare Advantage PPO plan, there are other Medicare Advantage plans Tanner participates in. These Medicare Advantage plans include Aetna, Cigna, Clover Health and Pruitt Health. Tanner continues to participate in traditional Medicare and all Medicare supplement plans offered by all insurance companies. Tanner is also committed to helping patients navigate these changes, providing information and assistance to ensure they can make informed decisions about their healthcare coverage.
