What an incredible journey we've had during our rookie year at the Formula Sun Grand Prix (FSGP) and American Solar Challenge (ASC) hosted by the Innovators Educational Foundation (American Solar Challenge & Formula Sun Grand Prix). Our team, after a two-year build cycle, faced a thrilling challenge with notable achievements. We kicked off with three days of rigorous scrutineering, where judges questioned our every design choice before deciding on if we would be allowed to compete at FSGP. At the conclusion of those 3 days we qualified for FSGP and were able to race at the National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park in Bowling Green, KY. Our rookie team excelled, achieving: - Top 10 in qualifying order - Top 10 finish at FSGP - Top 5 fastest lap Our preparation extended to all conditions, as we were one of only five teams ready for rain racing. At ASC, we traveled from Nashville, TN to Casper, WY, covering a total of 568 miles. We: - Finished an impressive 7th place out of 42 teams. - Became the first rookie team since 2018 to qualify for and finish ASC. Our rookie status made our accomplishments even more remarkable: - We were the best overall performing rookie team - Proudly held the title of the best team from Texas in both FSGP and ASC. - Received the Team Perseverance Award for outstanding performance and resilience amid adversity. Meet our newest #tamuMEEN news feature and the 2024 Sustainability Graduate Student Champion, Ian Burress ‘24! ?? ?? He’s a man of many hats: mechanical engineering master’s student, research assistant, Michigan State University alum, president & project manager of the Texas A&M Solar Car Racing team, wrestler, and now sustainability champion! Ian was recognized by the Texas A&M Office of Sustainability & Campus Enrichment for his research on a mobile faculty that removes ‘forever’ chemicals and his efforts reviving the Texas A&M Solar Car Racing Team after a 20-year hiatus. In the article, he chats with us about his long-time passion for automobiles, the importance of breaking down ‘forever chemicals,’ and passing on the Solar Car mantle. Last weekend, our team participated in Night at the Zach and hosted our very first Rollout. Both events were a huge success! We appreciate everyone who came out to Rollout and supported all four project teams. Special thanks to Vistra Corp. for sponsoring Rollout!! We are so proud of our engineers and what they have accomplished during this design cycle. We cannot wait to see what our Texas A&M Society of Automotive Engineers accomplish this summer!

Last week, our team gave the Texas A&M Foundation a tour of our shop! We are very grateful for their generous time spent asking questions and providing insight. It was an honor to present our hard work, dedication, and passion!

This weekend, our team had the opportunity to showcase our vehicle at the 2024 Solar Car Challenge Foundation Workshop in Fort Worth. It was a full weekend of lectures, guest speakers, and workshops to inspire rising engineers. Our Project Manager, Ian Burress, had the pleasure of being the keynote speaker, advising rising engineers on what the future of engineering holds. Other guest speakers included our Business Director, Adhav Rajkumar, and Finance lead, Abhay Patil. Joining us this weekend was?Illini Solar Car President Nafi Osmani and?University of Michigan Solar Car Team?Project Manager William Jones. All three PMs spent the weekend catching up, trading stories, and influencing young minds.
