关于我们
Founded in 1920, the Tampa Museum of Art inspires the residents of the Tampa Bay region and others around the world by providing engaging exhibitions and innovative educational programs that emphasize ancient, modern, and contemporary art. The Museum houses one of the largest Greek and Roman antiquities collections in the southeastern United States. As one of the region’s largest museums devoted to the art of our time, the Museum’s permanent collection also embraces sculpture, photography, painting, new media, and more. New online programs add to the year-round studio art classes, lectures, and tours that provide children, teens, and adults with opportunities to discover new perspectives and learn different art-making techniques. Likewise, through unique community partnerships, the Museum offers outreach programs that provide art therapy interventions and meaningful modes of self-expression to vulnerable segments of the population. Located in the heart of downtown Tampa, next to the Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park and Tampa’s Riverwalk, the Tampa Museum of Art leads as both a cultural institution and a community museum dedicated to celebrating the diversity of its home city. General Hours The Tampa Museum of Art is open seven days a week, Monday – Sunday 10 am – 5 pm and Thursdays from 10 am – 8 pm.

Ahh! You guys scared me! ?? These four heads portray ugly or hideous faces with exaggerated, grotesque or caricatural features, including grimacing expressions. They may once have belonged to statuettes for warding off evil forces, or for providing comic relief in daily life or in the hereafter. Hurricane Milton has left an indelible mark on the Tampa Bay area and beyond, with some communities facing devastation unlike anything we’ve seen in over a century. While the Tampa Museum of Art was fortunate to be spared the storm’s worst effects, our hearts are with our neighbors, both nearby and across the state, who have suffered tremendous loss and damage. We are grateful to announce that the museum will reopen its doors on Saturday, October 12, at 10 am. In light of the ongoing recovery efforts and challenges many face, we invite those experiencing hardships, such as power outages or displacement, to find a moment of tranquility in our galleries or use our free Wi-Fi and recharge your cell phones in the Vinik Family Education Center. All studio art classes scheduled at the Vinik Family Education Center and at our offsite partner locations will resume their schedules beginning Sunday, October 13. The antiquities lectures scheduled for Sunday, October 13, will be postponed with a future date to be determined. Our deepest gratitude goes to the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County teams, first responders, and countless others who worked around the clock to keep our community safe. As we recover together, we urge everyone to continue prioritizing safety and to follow official guidance on hurricane recovery efforts and restoration of essential services. In these challenging times, the Tampa Museum of Art remains a steadfast part of the community, offering a place of peace, reflection, and hope. We are here for you, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the museum as we continue to move forward together, stronger than before.

This precautionary closure aims to ensure the safety of our staff, visitors, and volunteers as the storm approaches. We are monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates regarding our reopening once the storm has passed and conditions are assessed. As part of our storm preparations, museum staff are taking all necessary measures to safeguard the permanent collection and the artwork and objects on display. All studio art classes scheduled at the Vinik Family Education Center and at our offsite partner locations will be canceled while the museum remains closed. Welcome back to our exploration of color in art! Last week, we discussed the color red, and this week, we’re focusing on the next primary color: blue. In art, blue can evoke a range of emotions, including honesty, peace, wisdom, and coldness. ?????? At the Tampa Museum of Art, we feature several pieces that delve into these emotions, such as "New Galaxy" by Alma Thomas. Alma Thomas was an African-American artist who began painting in her 70s after retiring from a 35-year teaching career. Her work draws inspiration from the natural beauty of nature and space travel. "New Galaxy" is one such piece, showcasing various shades of blue and creating a sense of peace and calm. ?? What emotions or themes do you associate with the color blue? What is the first thing that comes to mind when you see this color? Do you like blue? How often do you encounter this color in your everyday life? . . . . Alma Thomas (American, 1891-1978) New Galaxy, 1970 Acrylic on canvas Tampa Museum of Art, Gift of Douglas H. Teller, in memory of Julian H. Singman, 1997.017
