As one of the largest hospitals in Florida, Tampa General is licensed for 1,040 beds, and with over 8,000 employees, is one of the region’s largest employers. Today, we proudly hosted U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor’s annual Toy Safety Press Conference, where the release of this year’s Trouble in Toyland Report highlighted essential toy safety information for families and the legislative efforts to protect children from unsafe and toxic toys. Our own Dr. Jasmine Patterson, Medical Director of the Pediatric Emergency Room, joined the discussion to address common injuries seen during the holidays. Congresswoman Castor also had a chance to see the new renovations at our Muma Children's Hospital, witnessing the advancements we're making in pediatric care firsthand. We had the privilege of hosting some incredible 10th graders from Jefferson High School yesterday! As part of the 3DE Schools program by Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay, these students participated in a competitive case challenge, addressing a meaningful scenario: improving the health care experience of a 65-year-old Spanish-speaking female patient who may struggle with managing her health care appointments. Finalist groups presented their innovative solutions to a panel of judges, including members of our TGH leadership. Students also participated in a career panel and enjoyed guided hospital tours, offering a behind-the-scenes look at health care careers. A big congrats to these talented students for their hard work and creativity — the future looks bright with problem-solvers and innovators like them leading the way! ?? #WeAreTGH
