Agent vs Chatbot has been a hot topic last few months in AI debates. Marc Benioff (CEO of Salesforce) wrote an article on this a few days back and it provoked a few thoughts. Almost all the use cases in production today have agents being used for chat based interactions with a user or for drafting content for marketing or creating boilerplate code which are reviewed by a human and then utilized. However, the real potential is far beyond these use cases. Agents can be used to autonomously perform tasks beyond just producing content or responding to a user. These can be like an AI SDR that can do its own research, identify prospects, draft emails and reach out to them. But it is not limited to just text based operations. Take our AI proctoring agent, Alvy, for example. Alvy uses LLM Vision capabilities to monitor video feeds from a test taker just like a human proctor would do, assist them when needed or warn them when they do not follow test rules. Just as Marc sees AI transforming customer interactions, I believe Alvy is helping to redefine how we approach online testing. I was checking out Microsoft's latest announcement at Ignite 2024. While previous Microsoft AI releases have been somewhat limited in cross-application capabilities, this new rollout shows promising improvements. The ability to build autonomous agents and the introduction of innovative tools like the Interpreter agent are particularly intriguing. For organizations like ours that operate across global markets, real-time translation in Microsoft Teams meetings could be a game-changer, breaking down language barriers and enabling seamless international collaboration. Their Project Manager agent looks promising too. Automated task tracking? Yes, please. But want to see it working before getting too excited. The unique thing about AI releases is that it will always be underwhelming for many users as they believe so much more should be possible with the current status of the technology.
