Surely you’ve heard the trope that Spanish-speaking people talk really fast? Well, it’s actually true, and there's a good reason why: Spanish has a higher syllable rate than many other languages, so more syllables are spoken per second. In fact, in a 2019 study of 17 languages, Spanish ranked 2nd on speed (right behind Japanese) with around 8-9 syllables spoken per second, whereas English was in 8th place with around 6-7 syllables spoken per second.
