#mattersmostMonday I am on a total Monday high, having just onboarded a new, fabulously talented virtual assistant! Megan is based in Johannesburg, South Africa, and we connected via TalentMatch Africa, a visionary and deeply values-aligned company that is unlocking young talent in Africa (South Africa and Kenya for now) to serve, learn from, and grow global companies. So apart from integrating all of last week's Heroic Public Speaking wisdom into the next version of my speech, preparing for a full runthrough on 11/8, what matters MOST to me this week is dedicating the time, attention, and energy to Megan's onboarding. For 14 years, on the first day of work for every person whom I've hired, I have shared this message: "What we do is big, and it matters deeply to people and our global economy. It's about making work fairer, healthier, and more inspiring, in service of individuals, teams and organizations, and the societies around them. (What has come to be known as Leading in 3D - pursuing results in the Me, We, and World dimensions.) And so, there is no room to spend time, energy, or attention on politics, insecurity, or internal competition or head games. Any question, suggestion, request, or observation is to be taken as advancing that collective mission, not indicating that you are not liked, inadequate, or lacking in any way." And then, we get on with the work! I shared this spirit with Megan today, and also very much appreciate the training (for both of us!) from Silver Lining, the partner who connected me to TalentMatch, which emphasizes the trust required for a successful virtual collaboration with an Executive Assistant - particularly one leaning toward a marketing lead role, like Megan will evolve into on my team. This week, I am focused on setting Megan up for success, providing a whole braindump of my content so that she can get familiar. We will talk over working styles, our respective GC Index profiles, and start to identify KPIs for her first 100 days. She won't even get into my calendar or inbox until week 2.
