Reposting insights from our colleague, Keirstan Oeffinger, SHRM-CP, who recently reflected on the essential role of transparency and accountability in AI, particularly within the talent acquisition sector: “To me, transparency is not just about sharing information; it’s about clearly communicating with everyone involved—explaining why AI was chosen, how it was designed and developed, the criteria for its deployment, and how it is monitored and updated.” We’d love to hear your thoughts. What steps can leaders take to foster a culture of transparency and trust when implementing new technologies? #ArtificialIntelligence #AI #transparency #CultureofTrust #HumanResources #HR #Leadership #FutureOfWork #TalentAcquisition

Have you ever interacted with AI that felt so real it almost caught you off guard? I have, and while it initially raised some concerns for me, I soon realized it highlighted the growing demand for transparency and accountability in AI, especially as it continues to advance in the area of Talent Acquisition, specifically recruiting and hiring. To me, transparency is not just about sharing information; it’s about clearly communicating with everyone involved–explaining why AI was chosen, how it was designed and developed, the criteria for its deployment, and how it’s monitored and updated. I believe this commitment to transparency needs to be consistent and ongoing, starting in the early stages of development and continuing throughout the platform's lifecycle. It’s something that should be embraced at every level of the organization, from top executives to all employees. To effectively implement this commitment, I think organizations should adopt a balanced approach that considers the varying needs of all stakeholders. Good communication is vital in this process. It helps companies determine the right level of transparency for different audiences while also protecting their intellectual property. By identifying both internal and external stakeholders and understanding the specific information they require, organizations can develop tailored communication strategies that foster trust and transparency. What are your thoughts? How can we further enhance transparency in AI within our organizations?

Take a look at our colleague Juliana Donoso Abuawad's perspective on skills-based hiring, which she believes is key to unlocking more equitable opportunities for underrepresented groups. “I see skills-based hiring as a cultural shift because it asks us to rethink how we evaluate talent. It’s about asking hiring teams to transform the way they view candidates and the recruitment process. If we can help hiring teams focus on skills, we can open doors for so many, including my friends and family, who are ready to make an impact. Skills-based hiring isn’t just about finding the right person for the job; it’s about creating a more equitable future for all of us.” What are your thoughts? Do you think skills-based hiring will change how companies approach diversity and inclusion? How can organizations better- train hiring teams to make this shift? #AI #DiversityandInclusion #SkillsBasedHiring #FutureOfWork #AllinHiring #EquitableHiring #WomenInTheWorkplace

Functional Implementation Consultant at TalentLign Inc.

As a Hispanic immigrant living in the United States, I’ve noticed something all too familiar with my friends, family, and recent graduates that share a similar background with me - many are struggling to land jobs, even though they have a ton of skills and experience. It’s frustrating, especially when we feel like we’re not qualified enough (a feeling that’s all too common for women) or think that our previous experiences and job titles do not align with the roles we are aiming for, even if the skills are there. As AI technology continues to boom, we’re seeing a shift towards skills-based hiring, which holds great promise for underrepresented groups. By focusing on the specific skills candidates bring to the table, rather than relying solely on titles and credentials, AI-driven platforms like Eightfold are helping companies map out these skills and create more equitable opportunities. Despite a growing shift toward skills-based hiring, with 73% of employers in the United States sourcing candidates this way (SHRM, 2024), many hiring managers still rely on traditional decision making practices like focusing on degrees and credentials earned or previously held roles to fill positions. There is still a huge disconnect between policies and practices that needs to be addressed to truly unlock the full potential of skills-based hiring. This disconnect highlights a larger issue: lack of training. Talent Acquisition and hiring teams need to learn how to write job descriptions that clearly highlight the skills necessary for the role. This also helps candidates better understand what is expected of them and increases the chances of finding a role where they can excel. This transition requires hiring teams to embrace a new approach centered on identifying and recruiting skills. Training is key here, as it enables the hiring team to shift their focus and adapt to skills-based hiring. I see skills-based hiring as a cultural change because it requires people to rethink how they evaluate talent. It’s about asking hiring teams to transform the way they view candidates and the recruitment process. If we can help hiring teams focus on skills, we can open doors for so many, just like my friends and family, who are ready to make an impact. Skills-based hiring isn’t just about finding the right person for the job; it’s about creating a more equitable future for all of us. #SkillsBasedHiring #FutureOfWork #AIInHiring #EquitableHiring #DiversityAndInclusion #WomenInTheWorkforce #TalentDevelopment #InclusiveWorkplaces #HiringForSkills #HRTech #UnderrepresentedTalent #JobSearchJourney #EmpowermentThroughSkills
