Our Great Volunteers! We're celebrating our amazing volunteers during National Volunteer week, April 21-27. During 2023, Talbot Hospice volunteers gave an impressive 6527 hours of service to provide assistance to staff and support to our patients, their families, and the organization. Hospices licensed by Medicare are required to have volunteers provide day to day administrative and/or direct patient care services in an amount that, at a minimum, equals 5% of the total patient care hours. Licensed hospices are the only healthcare providers with this mandate, demonstrating just how important volunteers are to the us. Hospice volunteers play vital roles in a variety of ways, including staffing the welcome desks in the administrative building and in the Koons Hospice House, conducting veteran recognition ceremonies, cooking special meals for patients, running errands, etc. They also provide companionship and practical, emotional, social, spiritual and bereavement support. Volunteers can also provide respite for caregivers. Opportunities for volunteers are available both at the Talbot Hospice facility, and remotely in patient homes or other settings in the community.
