Food, sustainability, community: Empowering sustainable communities
关于我们
Takeout 25 was started in November 2020 in response to the pandemic that induced helplessness and hopelessness in the people and businesses of Oak Park IL. It started with a simple math equation to arrive at a specific ask of community members to support their local food establishments that form the backbone of the local economy. 10,000 residents spending $25 a week on local takeout creates $1 million a month in takeout business. This provides the approximately 100 restaurants in Oak Park an average monthly income of $10,000 each to cover basic operational costs to survive the pandemic. The mission was to help local restaurants survive the pandemic while keeping the community safe during the pandemic. Takeout 25 now includes Oak Park and it’s neighboring communities to the west of Chicago. Takeout 25 is now a community of over 13,000 members and a network of 100 restaurants. In addition to bringing the community together, Takeout 25 has saved local jobs and business by generating over $15 million in incremental business activity. This impact prompted us to expand the Takeout 25 mission and launch it as a not for profit in September 2021—which happens to be hunger action month. The Takeout 25 NFP mission now includes addressing food insecurity/food waste and sustainability of local food systems in addition to innovative ways to strengthen the local economy/community. The values we hold dear in the pursuit of this mission are positivity, community focus, impact, innovation and sustainability.

Happy 2025! Recently, Richard 'JR' Green a long term staff at a local restaurant was involved in a car accident, and during his hospital visit, he received an unexpected cancer diagnosis. This news coincided with reach outs from Giving Kitchen—a James Beard Award-winning nonprofit that has helped over 25,000 restaurant workers in crisis since 2013— to partner with Takeout 25 NFP as they expand into the Great Lakes region. We are excited to announce that?Takeout 25 is now partnering with Giving Kitchen to support restaurant workers in our community, and JR’s case is currently being processed for support through this collaboration. We are also setting up a dedicated?Takeout 25 Restaurant Workers’ Crisis Fund?to support and supplement the efforts of Giving Kitchen in assisting restaurant workers in our community, starting with JR. Please consider contributing to this fund and being part of this vital effort. https://lnkd.in/gfxGHJx8 January is Employee Appreciation Month At Takeout 25, we dedicate January to celebrating the hard work and contributions of our local restaurant staff. Through nominations by local restaurant owners, we highlight their hard work with posts and gifts to express our gratitude. This partnership with Giving Kitchen is a significant step forward in our vision to make our local restaurant workers, feel valued, appreciated, and secure. Thanks to Giving Kitchen for the partnership and Byline Bank?for the sponsorship of Takeout 25 Employee Appreciation Month. On behalf of the Takeout 25 team, board, and moderators, a healthy and prosperous New Year wishes! Let’s continue to make a difference together in 2025. #takeout25 #employeeappreciation #community Lindsey Rosenthal Susie Goldschmidt John Harris Rob Guenthner Sean Hennessy Madeline Khan-Roberts Christine Tully Ravi Parakkat

Thanks to the Takeout 25 NFP community for coming together to support the Oak Park Police Dept (OPPD) as we mourn the loss of their colleague, Detective Reddins, to senseless violence. Through the Takeout 25 gift card program you donated 73 $25 cards. There are 85 members in OPPD so we added 12 more cards to make sure that every member of the department had a gift as a token of appreciation for their service and sacrifice. We also supported 30+ local food businesses in the process. We handed the gift cards and the enclosed letter on our group’s behalf to the FOP treasurer Joe Nash as arranged by the Village of Oak Park. We will use the same process in the new year to share the donations collected for the Reddins family. The donation link enclosed is active till Dec 31st as previously communicated. https://lnkd.in/gT_w_3tb Thank you and happy holidays! #takeout25 #community

Takeout 25 NFP Holiday gift card bundles are back this year. Community members can buy these gift card bundles and we bundle $25 gift cards from dozens of local restaurants to meet the community's gifting and giving needs. All the proceeds from the gift card sales go to local restaurants and this year we are supporting the Oak Park Police Department and the family of Detective Allan Reddins who tragically lost his life in the line of duty last week. https://lnkd.in/g24DQ7U5 We want to make it easy for community members to support local business and causes. We appreciate our community for consistently stepping up to support what matters most locally. Thank you! We also want to thank our sponsors and partners- Byline Bank, Carnival Grocery and Ten Thousand Villages. #takeout25

This week was the 6th bi-annual Takeout 25 restaurant owners/managers meet up at Rhythm and Blues Cafe. It was our biggest one yet. We discussed how to innovate, create people centered solutions and a shared sustainable future with food at its core. We brainstormed and prioritized ideas that we’ll execute collectively over the next 6 months. Thanks to everyone who came out to participate and make our conversations rich and meaningful. You feed our community and make it exciting, fun and livable. #takeout25 #food #sustainability #community Eric Roy John Harris Sean Hennessy Rob Guenthner Madeline Khan-Roberts Ravi Parakkat Bethany Brown Judith Alexander Annie Coakley Cassie Carroll
