Recently, TakaTaka Solutions joined industry leaders at the ?Circular Shift Forum for SMEs in Kenya, diving into a crucial conversation—who really owns the waste we create? The forum, hosted by PAKPRO Kenya, was an eye-opener, equipping SMEs, importers, and manufacturers with the knowledge and tools to turn compliance into opportunity. With Kenya’s Sustainable Waste Management (EPR) Regulations 2024 now in place and full enforcement set for May 5, 2025, businesses must step up. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) isn’t just a policy—it’s a mindset shift, ensuring producers take responsibility for the entire lifecycle of their products, including post-consumer waste. Key highlights from the forum: EPR is About Growth, Not Penalties: Speaking at the event, Zachary Mwambi, Senior Enforcement Officer at the NEMA emphasized that EPR compliance isn’t about penalizing businesses - it’s about fostering responsible and sustainable growth. Opportunities for Innovation:Mary Ngechu,MBS, PAKPRO Board Member and Founder of TakaTaka Ni Mali, highlighted that EPR isn’t just a challenge - it’s a chance for SMEs to turn compliance into a competitive advantage and a pathway to long-term success. At TakaTaka Solution, we are proud to support PROs like PAKPRO to help businesses seamlessly meet EPR compliance. Here’s how we’ve been stepping up: ?? Recycling Stations: Placing recycling stations in high-traffic areas like malls to enable efficient waste collection and recycling. ?? Education and Training: Equipping businesses with the knowledge and tools to navigate EPR regulations through tailored trainings and workshops. We see EPR not as a regulatory requirement but as an opportunity - to drive innovation, cut waste, and create a more sustainable future. We invite businesses to join us in turning challenges into opportunities. Reach out to us today to learn more about how we can support your EPR compliance journey. #Sustainability #EPRCompliance #CircularEconomy #WasteManagement #GreenKenya #SMEs #Innovation #Collaboration

Imagine a community with clean spaces, healthier lives, and a thriving environment. This is the vision we’re working towards in Kenya’s coastal town of Mombasa. After launching our operations in the region, we are now extending our reach to neighboring areas like Magongo and Changamwe, where waste management remains a challenge. By supporting groups and community-based organizations like the Cashewnut Women Group with equipment such as PPEs, waste bins, and handcarts, we enable them to manage waste safely and responsibly. But this isn’t just about tools—it’s about collaboration. Working together with local governments, CBOs, and community leaders to establish sustainable systems that empower communities to protect our environment. The waste problem is real, but so is the solution—especially when we come together, working towards a common goal to make our environments better. ?? #WasteManagement #Recycling #CommunityImpact #zerowaste #CleanCoastKenya

→ Have you seen a #recyclingbin lately in Nairobi? If you’ve visited major malls like Two Rivers, Capital Centre, Galleria Mall, you might have come across one. But despite the availability of recycling bins at these spots, many remain underused. Why is that? #Recycling bins are often strategically placed in areas such as supermarkets, service stations, and shopping malls, with organizations like TakaTaka Solutions, PETCO Kenya, and Mr. Green Africa setting up accessible drop-off points across the city. For instance, TakaTaka Solutions operates over 20 recycling stations, and Mr. Green Africa has GreenPoints at TOTAL Service Stations in Gigiri and Ngong Road. But here’s the challenge: many people STILL don’t use them. So, what’s going wrong? 1?? Lack of Awareness: Many people don’t know where these bins are located or what can be recycled. 2?? Cultural Barriers: Recycling isn’t yet part of daily routines, and there’s limited education on the benefits. 3?? Incentives: Without immediate rewards, people aren’t motivated to separate waste at the source. To improve this, we need to: ?Increase Education: Through public awareness campaigns and community outreach. ?Create Incentives: Reward people for recycling with points or small rewards. ? Integrate Recycling into Daily Life: Make it as easy as possible for people to drop off recyclables on their way to work or during shopping. Nairobi can lead the way in sustainable waste management, but it starts with us. Let’s #ThinkBeforeYouToss and be part of the change. → Tell me. What would motivate you to use recycling bins more often? Drop your thoughts below. ?? Photos credit: TakaTaka Solutions #TrashTalkWithCynthia #GreenNairobi #CircularEconomy

What if we could change the narrative of "unsustainable practices" in handling waste within our communities? Whether it stems from irresponsible disposal, misinformation, or ignorance, we can address this challenge from the root by educating our younger generation. By engaging and teaching them about personal responsibility in handling waste and its impact on our environment, we can cultivate a culture of sustainability. It is for this reason that TakaTaka Solutions is collaborating with @Braeside and other schools in Nairobi to: ?? Educate students about the environmental impact of waste and best waste management practices. ??? Set up efficient waste collection and recycling systems. ?? Empower students to participate in waste reduction initiatives. By empowering the next generation with knowledge and practical skills, we can create a lasting impact on our environment and build a more sustainable future. #Sustainability #WasteManagement #EnvironmentalEducation #EnvironmentalAwareness
