Happy October LinkedIn Family! #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth was first observed in October 1981 and has been held each year as a way to unite advocates across the nation in efforts to end domestic violence. Communities and organizations across the US connect with the others throughout the month to raise awareness about the signs of abuse, ways to stop it, uplift survivor stories, and provide support and resources. According to Autism Speaks, 1 in 36 children and 1 in 45 adults in the US have autism. Have you ever heard someone speaking and it's painfully obvious that they're not being themselves?? ? Maybe you can't put your finger on it, but you know that something is not connecting.? ? Fortunately for me, I did not have that experience today. Instead, I was so enthralled by what I was hearing that I recommended and shared it with family before I finished it. ? I finally watched "Authenticity: Who You are is Non-Negotiable" by?Caroline A. Wanga. ? If you're struggling with how you show up in the world or how to communicate in a way that's true to yourself without compromising your goals and aspirations, then spend 38 minutes listening. Here's why. ? Caroline Wanga pulls no punches and provides a complete message. I love her presentation style and how she combines her lived personal, professional, and cultural experiences to educate others. She's easy to listen to because she's communicating effortlessly, because she's operating in her strengths and natural style. ? I'm going to paraphrase my favorite parts. ? 1. Be excellent at your job. "You don't get to skip the fundamentals because of your authenticity. Your authenticity is the differentiator you add to the fundamentals." - Caroline Wanga ? 2. There is a sequence to showing up authentically. People will be more willing to listen to what you have to say after you've shown you can add value. ? 2. Don't wallow in victimhood. We all have some kind of privilege.? ? 3. Operate in your own strengths. Don't try to recreate someone else's version of success. Find your natural abilities and focus on those. ?
