As part of her participation in the PEAK Program at TFHS, Pediatric Care Coordinator Missy Pursel, RN, is a first-year backup mentor with SOS Outreach North Tahoe Truckee. She teamed up with Jorge Montano-Figueroa, Pediatric Injury Prevention Specialist at Renown, to share why wearing a helmet while sledding is just as crucial as wearing one for skiing, snowboarding, or motorsports. Why Wear a Helmet While Sledding? ?? Unlike skis or snowboards, sleds lack control—you can’t easily stop or steer. ?? Sledding often happens in uncontrolled terrain with obstacles like trees, rocks, and creeks. ?? Bystanders can also get hurt if struck by an out-of-control sled. The PEAK Program at TFHS is an evidence-based clinical ladder that supports nurses' personal and professional growth while enhancing patient care. With over 60 participants, it rewards skill advancement through a tiered system and plans to expand to other departments.
