The Taft Research Center offers funding for scholarship and events in the humanities and social sciences at UC.
关于我们
The Charles Phelps Taft Research Center offers funding for undergraduate, graduate, & faculty scholarship in the humanities and social sciences at the University of Cincinnati. In 1930, Annie Sinton Taft made a generous $2,000,000 endowment in honor of her late husband Charles Phelps Taft to “bring about a concentration of interest upon that group of ideas which are generally known as 'The Humanities,' hoping others may be inspired to join in the same work or other work of the University." Between 1930 and 2005, the Charles Phelps Taft Memorial Fund provided monies from the endowment to UC faculty and students, towards the above purpose. In 2005, under the leadership of Richard Harknett, Taft gained an institution presence as the Charles Phelps Taft Research Center at the University of Cincinnati. Our mission is to realize the vision of Annie Sinton Taft, funding excellent humanities scholarship in order to expand our minds and the conceivable.

TODAY, Monday, 3/3, 11:30am: The Taft Research Center presents the 2025–27 Taft Professor of Social Justice Inaugural Lecture, The Stories We Tell Ourselves: Making Space(s) for Truth-Telling at UC featuring Dr. Anne Delano Steinert. ?? Every institution has stories to explain and affirm its origin, rituals, and values. These stories are passed down in many ways, including within the physical spaces we inhabit together. In her inaugural lecture, 2025–27 Taft Professor of Social Justice Professor Anne Delano Steinert will explore two pieces of UC’s history—stories of the university’s founding donor, Charles McMicken, and the full-body radiation experiments conducted by UC physicians between 1960–1972—and contrast the ways we tell their stories on our campus today and how we might tell them more truthfully in the future. ??? Free and open to the public. Reception to follow. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gyc98FkG

?? First Academic publication out?? "Capturing Congolese Women’s Memories of War and Peacemaking"?? Issue n. 7 (2024): Close Encounters in War and Personal Narratives. Experience, Memory, and Storytelling in the Journal of Close Encounters in War. The concluding contribution of this special issue by Marie-Rose Tshite is Capturing Congolese Women’s Memories of War and Peacemaking, interweaves narratives gathered from oral history interviews of over 30 women and highlights materials from their own personal archives towards correcting the official record of war and peacemaking in the DRC that excludes women’s experiences, actions, memories, and memorabilia. Four narratives of the Sun City women are shared those are from Mme Aurelie Bitondo, Mme Faida Mwangilwa, Mme Marie-Rose Kambere and Mme Jeannine Mukanirwa. Stories of men in power and men who took up arms, whether governmental or rebel group actors, have dominated Congolese public discourse about the first and second civil wars and the 2003 Pretoria peace agreement that was to end them. The male-centred narration of war and peacemaking in public discourse, institutional archives, and even academic study has perpetuated the exclusion of the narratives of Congolese women who struggled for peace. This article contributes to re-establishing the central role that women had in the peacemaking process after the war and the unknown history of women’s war and peace activism in the DRC to contribute to the field of feminist peace and security studies and studies of women in war and peace histories, particularly in the Global South? (infra, p. 280). Here is the link to the article ?? https://lnkd.in/g_TMhNcN ?????? I would like to take this time to say a heartfelt Thanks to Dr. Anne Runyan Stephen Bryant Prateek Srivastava for encouraging and guiding me throughout the all process.
