??ATTENTION ARTISTS! ??Applications are now open for our 2025 and 2026 Duncanson Artist-in-Residence Program! The Taft Museum of Art is seeking a hip-hop artist (2025) and a visual artist specialized in painting (2026) with teaching experience and a commitment to social justice for the upcoming two years of the Duncanson Artist-in-Residence program. To honor the relationship between Black American painter Robert S. Duncanson (1821–1872) and Cincinnati art patron Nicholas Longworth (1782–1863), the Taft’s Robert S. Duncanson Society annually recognizes and celebrates the achievements of contemporary Black artists through the Duncanson Artist-in-Residence program. Previous Duncanson Artists-in-Residence include, among others, poet/essayist Nikki Giovanni, filmmaker William Greaves, playwright/screenwriter Keith Josef Adkins, violist Nokuthula Ngwenyama, soprano Adrienne Danrich, actor/playwright Nikkole Salter, visual and performance artist Vanessa German, filmmaker Ya’Ke Smith, and Tunde Wey, artist, writer, and chef (pictured here). This week, the Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber announced the list of 56 local leaders participating in its new class of Leadership Cincinnati, and this year the list includes the Taft Museum of Art's President and CEO, Becky Beaulieu! “This cohort of Leadership Cincinnati participants is an incredible group of individuals who have each answered the call to elevate their civic quotient and take their next step as civic leaders in this community,” Sean Comer, vice president of the chamber's Leadership Center, said in a news release. From the keynote exploring inclusion in museum spaces to sessions navigating DEAI conversations, website accessibility, and beyond, there was so much to learn and experience at this year's conference. We are thrilled to announce that we have been selected as a 2024 #FrankenthalerClimate Initiative awardee! ?? Established by the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation in collaboration with Environment & Culture Partners and RMI, this grant program supports energy efficiency and clean energy projects to catalyze climate action in the visual arts.??At the Taft, we will be will be replacing halogen and incandescent bulbs in Fifth Third Gallery and the collection galleries, which display the museum’s collection and temporary exhibitions.
