Advanced materials and additive manufacturing (AM) – also known as #3Dprinting – are some of the best tools in our toolbox to accelerate our progress toward commercial fusion power. As TAE Project Engineer Vincent Pilard shared at this year’s Global AM Summit, our successful integration of AM has been key to solving fusion engineering challenges quickly and sustainably. “The global energy demand is on course to double by 2050 – fusion is capable of sustaining the planet for thousands of years, safely delivering environmentally responsible baseload power,” Pilard presented at the NAMIC Singapore event. “Leveraging AM optimizes our capability to build components with complex geometries and develop engineering solutions with high-performance materials.”
