At last Saturday’s 4th Annual Earth Day Seeds of Unity Fest over 400 attendees came to enjoy the free food, coffee, performances, activities and various giveaways including the T.RU.S.T South LA team and Strategic Concepts in Organizing and Policy Education collectively passing out 310 air purifiers to South Central residents! Along with providing attendees a joyful afternoon, the event was a space for us to engage the community with South LA Eco-Lab resources and opportunities meant to invest in creating green spaces, energy/water efficient infrastructure, and expansion of safe active travel and public transit. Thank you to our event partners and funders who have invested in our goal of enhancing public health, well-being, and environmental justice for South Central residents. Yesterday we were excited to host Hayana Guerrero, Denise Araya Ovalle, and Michelle Landazuri from First Citizens Bank to learn more about our work. Their visit was part of a $50,000 investment in T.R.U.S.T South LA's housing justice and community ownership work. We look forward to continuing to learn from each other and to deepening our relationship! #TrustSouthLA #HousingJustice #EconomicEquity

In 2022 voters approved a measure for a one-time tax on the sale of real estate that sells for more than $5 million in LA City. The funding from this measure provides housing for people living on the streets, sends emergency assistance to low-income seniors in danger of becoming homeless, provides legal aid to renters, protects tenants from harassment, and builds/preserves permanently affordable housing for everyone. Since the measure was passed it’s achieved many successes but has also been met with fierce push back from lobbyists and lawyers representing corporate real estate interests. Register for this zoom teach-in on Mar 25 to learn more about how you can join us in protecting all the wins this measure has brought our city.

We’re so thankful to have one of our original T.R.U.S.T South LA members, Yesenia Mapache, drop by as a guest speaker for our staff organizing training. Her story helped ground us in the history of the organization and provided insights for our future as well. With 2025 being our 20th year anniversary it's a great time to reflect on our past and use that to inform the next 20 years of our work.
