Behind Every Secure System is a Great IT Hero ?? ? At Systems West Engineers, safeguarding our data and building systems is a top priority. We owe a huge thanks to our IT expert, Kenneth Chambers, who helps us stay cyber-secure every day. For Cybersecurity month, we're sharing how Kenneth supports SWE: ? - Utilizes a reputable and highly regarded endpoint protection solution - Ensures that our staff implement two-factor authentication for their work accounts - Helps our team remain vigilant regarding updates and operating system versions, replacing any outdated and insecure products prior to their end-of-life. - Committed to enhancing our toolset and provides ongoing training, aimed at preventing ransomware, phishing, and other cyberattacks. ? While no system is perfect, we are focused on keeping our technology as secure as possible ??

Summer may be over, but the fun is never forgotten! ? A few SWE team members wrapped up summer in style at the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) Bend Summer Social last month! ? Meredith Osborn, PE, LEED AP did an amazing job supporting the event at 10 Barrel Brewing. The group enjoyed great snacks, cocktails, and an exciting raffle, with standout prizes like custom cornhole boards from Joe Rundle at EC Electric.?

Advancing Campus Sustainability at Oregon State University: A Case Study on Heat Recovery and Decarbonization?? ? Excited to share insights from our latest case study, adapted from our white paper in the International Journal of Energy Management. We explored how Oregon State University is looking at long-term solutions for reducing campus-level greenhouse gas emissions. ??Key Takeaways: - Integrated heat recovery chillers improve campus energy efficiency. - Demand-Side Management strategies reduce reliance on gas-fueled steam. - Innovative solutions like lab exhaust heat recovery capture waste energy. ? By prioritizing low-carbon heating and cooling strategies, OSU is setting the bar for sustainable energy management on campus. ? Want to dive deeper? Meet Emily Pruse! She joined SWE in 2023 and through her adept writing, proofreading, and communication skills, she has found fulfillment in assisting the SWE team and our clients in achieving their objectives. What core value resonates with you the most? Support Community. I’m really happy that I get to work with people who care so deeply about our community, our environment, and our fellow coworkers. From our Sustainability Committee’s excitement to share tips and ideas (did you know there are several Community Supported Agriculture programs right here in Springfield and Eugene where you can get tasty, fresh produce from local farmers year-round?), to many of our team’s involvement with volunteer activities like river cleanups and United Way’s Day of Caring, SWE is a company that truly cares. ? Favorite memory from working here? Every month we have a series of fun challenges we can complete in order to earn points in our company’s rewards program. It’s entirely voluntary and a fun way to connect with your coworkers. Last summer, several challenges were put forth at once, including a challenge to get a SWE-related tattoo before the company picnic. A group of employees responded by ordering a bunch of temporary tattoos of the CEO’s face and distributed them around the office. Everyone showed up to the picnic with the silly fake tattoo—And one person came in with a REAL tattoo of the company logo. Do you have any hidden talents? I love experimenting with different art and craft mediums! My Mom is an excellent artist and a wonderful teacher, and I’ve inherited my love of art from her. While I’m by no means an expert in any of them, I’ve worked with acrylic paint, oil paint, watercolor, chalk and oil pastels, embroidery, needle felting, knitting, collage, linoprinting, clay sculpting, wheel-thrown pottery (which I am terrible at, but at least I’ve tried), and whatever else I can get my grubby little hands on. Crochet, however, remains forever beyond my reach.

Over the past three years, Alliant Systems has proudly provided design-build mechanical services to support Springfield Public Schools (Oregon) investment of one-time federal funding for HVAC upgrades. Our team took a strategic approach to ensure that the funds were allocated effectively across 18 SPS elementary and middle school facilities. Alliant also partnered with Systems West Engineers on an additional significant project at Thurston High School. The district-wide effort started with comprehensive site investigations and assessments of facility conditions to establish clear design requirements. Building on that baseline, we leveraged Alliant’s expertise in budget control, constructability reviews, and technical planning in a true design-build process. The ultimate result delivered exceptional value, ensuring mechanical improvements were completed safely and economically for SPS students, staff, and faculty. It has been a pleasure collaborating with the outstanding SPS facilities team, and we look forward to continuing our partnership on future projects. https://lnkd.in/gA7DZgqt
