Center of Innovation in Mental Health

Faith-based organizations (FBOs) have long played an important role in addressing social challenges and supporting members of their community. Churches, synagogues, temples, monasteries, mosques, and other houses of worship are often deeply invested and engaged in equity work in their communities. Successful, power-sharing partnerships between FBOs and universities can magnify social impact efforts to dismantle structural racism. Two Systems for Action studies have an academic-faith partnership in place: ? Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement, Inc. (HCCI) works with CIMH CUNY SPH to study a multisector task-sharing collaborative addressing the interrelated problems of mental health disorders, poverty, and housing instability among racial and ethnic minority communities residing in Harlem, New York. ? Shiloh Baptist Church in Trenton, New Jersey works with Tufts University to study a church based home-visiting program that aims to align health and social services for households with young children. Learn how these partnerships came to be and what these Systems for Action grantees advise for replication on Wednesday, September 25th from 12-1pm ET. Register here! #HCCI #CUNYSPH

Faith-based organizations are uniquely credible members of many communities. Providing services for community members in need and those most vulnerable is integral to their organizations' core values. These frontline organizations often have strong traditions of working for social justice and against racial inequalities; they serve as key partners in advocating for community health. Partnerships between academic institutions and faith-based organizations present unique opportunities for research, support, and program implementation. Two such partnerships in New York and New Jersey will share how they came to be and what they’ve learned. Join leaders from Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement, Inc. Structural racism is embedded in every aspect of society and contributes to the health disparities that persist today. If we are to create a world where health is truly for everyone, we must embrace new ways of learning that challenge the status quo. An important step in challenging structural racism is designing research studies that authentically incorporate community partners' expertise and lived experience. When community collaboration is embedded throughout the research process, findings are more relevant and better positioned to inform changes that directly address community needs. A panel by national program offices of the RWJF will feature unique research collaborations, including: ? ? Nebraska’s Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) service locations to develop a community-based screening program for colorectal cancer. ? The first US municipality where both city and county governments jointly signed reparations resolutions in Buncombe County, NC. ? A community-based organization and university team up to support fathers experiencing homelessness in Atlanta, GA. ? Cross-sector research collaboration teams from Evidence for Action (E4A), Policies for Action, and Systems for Action will share their insights and findings about promoting health equity in their local communities. ? Panelists: ? Jungyoon Kim | E4A ? tamarie a. M., Rob Thomas, & Chasity Leake | P4A ? Latrice Rollins, Thomas C. Cotton & Lease Youmans | S4A Register to learn more on Wednesday, Oct. 2nd at 12pm ET: https://lnkd.in/gzb6_6xe
