Happy Friday! ?
We’re all about finding inspiration, and today we’re excited to share a story from one of our consultants in Germany, Prasanth Sivakumar. Music is his passion, and he didn’t just stop at listening—he taught himself to play several instruments! Dive into his story and see how he brings this creative energy into his life and work. Check it out:
"I’ve been learning and playing a couple of musical instruments since I was 10 years old. I started learning to play the “Mridangam”, a classical Indian percussion instrument. I also started learning the “Veena”, a string instrument a couple of years later. Started out as just making noise in the early mornings in the name of practice sessions, I got better through time and realized that playing music as a form of channelling my emotions.
When I moved to Germany, I was not able bring my instruments. On chance, I tried my hands on a borrowed classical guitar. Translating my knowledge from one string instrument to another was not a conventional way of learning but I guess I made it work. I have been practicing, learning and re-learning to plays the guitar on and off. I also have taken into playing the “Cajón”.
As a programmer, I tend to be in front of a screen for at least a third of a day. Taking some time away from monitors, playing either a few notes or some beats feels like a means of catharsis. The versatility to play different instruments helped me when I enrolled in the Creative Orchestra program in the Elbphilharmonie, Hamburg. I got to try out and experiment with different musical instruments with other dabblers. Through the course of the program, I got to try out different instruments from Contrabass through Timpani, learned the discipline of playing in an orchestra. Every new instrument brings out a new experiment to express myself and I aim to try out as many as I can."
Have a great weekend everyone! ??
