??New Article: "Food Security is National Security"??? At Synthesis Capital, we believe that the landscape of global security is evolving, and so is what fuels it. As the U.S. transitions into a new chapter of leadership, alternative proteins present a strategic opportunity for political leaders to: ??? Mitigate supply chain vulnerabilities ?? Reduce dependency on imported goods ?? Create more sustainable, resilient food systems From the grim military rations of the past to the cutting-edge innovations of today, food has always been central to global stability. Discover why nations are supporting alternative protein innovation in our latest article:?“Food Security is National Security.” Read here:?https://lnkd.in/ez3eWhMc #FoodSecurity #NationalSecurity #AlternativeProteins #FoodTech #Innovation #Sustainability

The protein transition, a societal shift from animal proteins to alternative protein sources, would lead to a more sustainable, healthy, and ethical food system. Our Chief Scientific Officer, David Welch, recently co-authored a paper on this critical topic, and in our newest Insights post we interviewed David alongside the paper’s lead author,?Wendy Jenkins?at?Wageningen University & Research,?to understand how they view the protein transition. It was a pleasure to welcome our Limited Partners for our Annual Meeting in London earlier this month. Taking stock of progress both within our portfolio and the broader food tech sector, we were delighted this year to welcome our portfolio company CEOs Kathleen C. Alexander, Maria Cho, Adam Tarshis, and Eshchar Ben-Shitrit for updates on their businesses and outlook. We were also honoured to be joined by Hannah Ritchie as our keynote speaker, who delivered a fascinating presentation on "how to feed far more people with far less land", reinstilling the critical importance of alternative proteins within our food system. While acknowledging the ongoing challenging environment, we ended the day feeling more excited than ever about the opportunities in our sector, following a delicious dinner including Savor and Redefine Meat products. Already looking forward to next year! Mozza Foods Triplebar

Optimising structure and function are essential in developing great tasting food that will accelerate the transition to a better food system! This week, David Welch gave the keynote talk at the Elsevier Food Structure and Functionality Symposium in Bruges, Belgium. David’s talk focused on the use of biotechnology to create more functional and sustainable ingredients from plants, microbes, and animal cells for meat and dairy products. Exciting times ahead for the future of food innovation! This symposium is a must attend for alternative protein scientists looking to expand their knowledge of food structure and functionality. #biotechnology #alternativeproteins #foodtech #sustainability #futureoffood

Synthesis Capital's Future of Food Dinner at Climate Week NYC was a feast for the senses. Esteemed guests enjoyed a salted butter breadboard with carrots and radishes; savory black pepper shortbread with cured olive, thyme compound butter and br?léed figs; and a chocolate tart with butterscotch sauce, blackberry-orange curd and orange poached pears – all made with Savor’s delicious animal-free butter and prepared by our very own Jordan Beiden-Charles. It was a memorable evening and we are thrilled to have been part of it (images courtesy Synthesis Capital) #ClimateWeekNYC #Sustainability #ClimateAction

Tasting the future of food! Last night, to celebrate Climate Week, we hosted a group of Synthesis investors and close partners of the firm in New York to enjoy some of the most exciting products from our portfolio companies UPSIDE Foods, Savor, and Redefine Meat. Food systems have been central to this year's Climate Week conversations. And the progress showcased yesterday evening across technologies, from cultivated chicken, to next-generation New-Meat made from plants, to butter and dairy fat made from CO2, was incredible. The future of food won't just be sustainable... it will also be delicious! Thank you to Eshchar Ben-Shitrit, Mor Tamshe, Kathleen C. Alexander, Chiara Cecchini, Jordan Beiden-Charles, Uma Valeti, MD, Amy Chen, Daniel Davila for helping us to create an incredible evening! #ClimateWeekNYC

Agriculture is responsible for 25% of greenhouse gas emissions, with livestock production as the leading contributor. This year's #ClimateWeekNYC has featured more of a focus on #food than ever before. But we need much more concerted action to move away from livestock production, in order to curb climate change. Our new report with Triple Helix examines the sources of agricultural emissions and the technological solutions which can help combat them. Check out our insights post to learn more! https://lnkd.in/e28z5jnq #climate #climatechange #sustainability #ghg #emissions #ghgemissions #agriculture #foodsystems #alternativeprotein?

?? At Synthesis Capital, we are excited about the potential for precision fermentation to revolutionise food production. ?? But for it to become a mainstream method for producing animal proteins, costs need to decrease. ?? Our new article, “Precision Fermentation: Pathways to Cost Parity,” delves into seven enabling technologies that are driving down costs. "Just as a suite of improvements were necessary for electric vehicles (EVs) to achieve market penetration, the same will be true for precision fermentation. For EVs, battery costs plummeted, ranges increased, and cars became more desirable. Further, electric vehicle makers continue to improve on pain points such as charging networks, vehicle weight, and the environmental impact of battery components. Similarly, we are poised to see continued improvements in precision fermentation as companies find breakthroughs across key levers." https://lnkd.in/egJ5hUu6 #PrecisionFermentation #AlternativeProteins #FutureOfFood #FoodTech #Fermentation?#breakthroughs Hyfé, Triplebar, Perfect Day, Boston Consulting Group (BCG), The Good Food Institute
