Last week, on America Recycles Day, Synterex employees were encouraged to volunteer an hour to support our Green Team's mission to keep our planet clean. Here are three of the ways our team chose to celebrate: 1. Jeanette Towles and Jon Towles filled their recycling bin and composted. 2. Dora purchased pre-owned baby shoes and upcycled them by hand-painting them. 3. Shivangi painted a pasta sauce jar to transform it into a vase. #AmericaRecyclesDay #Sustainability #WasteReduction #EcoFriendly #SynterexTeam

Last week, our Green Team hosted an Open House one day before America Recycles Day to build championship for all 4 pillars of sustainability, including environmental, social, economic, and human (culture). One of the team's goals is to propose and implement initiatives that create a cleaner, green future. Our mission for a healthier planet is bigger than us, though. Here are 10 things you can do to support the environmental pillar of sustainability: 1. Organize a local cleanup with friends, family members, or coworkers. See who can collect the most recyclable items! 2. Eliminate single-use plastic. Bring a reusable bag to the grocery store or take your own tumbler to the coffee shop. 3. Make art or crafts from recycling. Turn bottle caps, cardboard, or old clothes into something beautiful. 4. Start a garden. Egg cartons make great seed containers, and plastic water bottles can be hanging planters. 5. Learn the DOs and DON'Ts with the Scrapp app, which allows you to scan barcodes on items to learn how to recycle them. 6. Watch a documentary like A Plastic Ocean to better understand the impact of sustainable practices on the planet. 7. Go paperless. Reduce your paper usage by signing up to receive bills and receipts by email, for instance. 8. Host a yard sale or donate clothes and other items that are in good condition. This also reduces clutter! 9. Shop more sustainably by buying brands that are committed to eco-friendly practices or going to thrift stores. 10. Reuse items and get organized. Find creative ways to reuse old cardboard boxes and glass containers. #GoGreen #Sustainability #WasteReduction #EcoFriendly #SynterexTeam

World Pancreatic Cancer Day is observed annually on the 3rd Thursday of November to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer, a particularly aggressive form of cancer that often goes undetected until it has reached advanced stages. The day aims to educate the public about the symptoms, risk factors, and importance of early diagnosis, as well as to support research funding and improve treatment options. Organizations and advocacy groups around the world participate by hosting events, launching awareness campaigns, and sharing information through various media outlets. The day emphasizes the need for increased research into the causes and treatment of pancreatic cancer, as well as support for patients and their families. In recent years, there has been a growing effort to highlight the importance of recognizing the signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer, which can include abdominal pain, jaundice, unexplained weight loss, and changes in appetite. These observations are often non-specific, leading to late-stage diagnosis, which is a major focus of awareness efforts. Did you know that diabetes impacts both humans and animals? As we observe #DiabetesAwarenessMonth this November, let’s explore diabetes from a comparative medicine perspective. Diabetes affects millions worldwide, and its prevalence is increasing. In people, it can lead to serious complications like heart disease, kidney failure, and nerve damage. Our pets, especially dogs and cats, can also develop diabetes, mirroring many of the symptoms and complications seen in humans. Research shows that by studying diabetes in dogs, we can better understand the disease's progression and response to treatments in humans. For example, studies have shown dogs with diabetes experience similar fluctuations in blood sugar (glucose) levels when treated with insulin, which enables us to refine insulin treatment protocols for people. Moreover, obesity is a significant risk factor for diabetes in both dogs and humans. Research has shown that dietary management in dogs can effectively control blood sugar levels, providing a model for dietary interventions in people. This shared experience offers a perspective on managing diabetes through diet, exercise, and medication. By fostering collaboration between veterinary and human medicine, we can enhance our understanding of this condition across species, leading to better treatments for all. According to Belgium-based animal advocacy group HealthForAnimals, dogs' life expectancy has doubled in the last 40 years. In the same time period, indoor cats' life expectancy became double that of feral cats. Aside from "higher levels of vaccination, better nutrition, and a shift to raising more animals primarily indoors," the primary driver of these increases has been more awareness of pet health needs. #PetHealth #HealthForAnimals #AnimalStatistics
