Leading developer of optical design and analysis tools

关于我们

Synopsys Optical Solutions, formerly Optical Research Associates (ORA), is one of the world’s leading developers of optical design and analysis tools -- CODE V? imaging design software and LightTools? illumination design software. The group is also an independent supplier of optical systems design services, with more than 5,000 completed projects in imaging, illumination and optical systems engineering. In May 2012, Synopsys acquired RSoft Design Group, expanding the company’s portfolio of optical design and analysis software products. With the RSoft? products, Synopsys has augmented the CODE V and LightTools product lines to provide a full spectrum of photonic and optical design solutions. In February 2014, Synopsys acquired Brandenburg, maker of the LucidShape line of CAD software for the design of automotive forward, rear and signal lighting and reflectors, as well as for general lighting. In addition to design software, Brandenburg offers LucidDrive for night driving simulation that generates almost photorealistic lighting scenes in real time. Designers use it to quickly and accurately evaluate beam patterns of vehicle headlamps prior to expensive fabrication and testing. Most top-tier car companies and their lighting OEMs use Brandenburg products. • We are excited to spotlight Maria Ruiz-Gonzalez, an Applications Engineer at Synopsys Optical Solutions, who supports our customers in designing imaging systems using CODE V and ImSym – Imaging System Simulator. Maria holds a Ph.D. in Optical Sciences from The University of Arizona and has extensive experience in gamma-ray medical imaging and optical engineering. In celebration of International Women’s Day, we're highlighting Maria’s journey in the field of optical engineering. ?? Q: Can you share your journey into the field of optical engineering? What inspired you to pursue this career? "I pursued an undergraduate degree in physics in Mexico, where I worked in a laser cooling lab. My projects involved working with electronic systems for magnetic field noise compensation and laser frequency locking, which sparked my interest in optics. Through my undergraduate advisor, I learned about the optics program at the University of Arizona and applied for a PhD. During my PhD, my interest in electronics led me to a research group focused on gamma-ray medical imaging. My work involved developing probabilistic and statistical methods for gamma-ray parameter estimation, as well as designing electronic systems for gamma-ray camera control, signal readout, and signal processing. I continued in this field during my postdoc, where I also gained formal teaching training and experience. The combination of my experience across multiple fields led me to transition into my current role as an application engineer, where I help customers develop their optical systems using our products." Q: What advice would you give to young women aspiring to enter the field of optical engineering? Are there any specific skills or experiences you recommend they focus on to succeed in this industry? "Optical systems are inherently interdisciplinary. While they revolve around the manipulation of light, developing them also requires knowledge of fields such as electronics, mechanics, programming, and materials science. Building a strong foundation in physics is essential, and gaining early exposure to optical, mechanical, and electrical engineering will help you develop a well-rounded skill set that can open doors to all areas within optical engineering. While you will gain some of this knowledge in classes, the most valuable learning will come from hands-on experience. Don’t wait until you feel like you know enough theory, start gaining experience as soon as possible!" Thank you to Maria for sharing her journey with us. Let's celebrate and support the incredible women making strides in STEM fields. #WomenInSTEM #OpticalEngineering #Inspiration #CareerJourney #STEM #WomenInEngineering #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2025 #WomenInScience #WomenInOptics

  • ?? Happy World Engineering Day! ?? What if we told you the invisible threads connecting your phone calls, the lasers mending lives in operating rooms, and the telescopes unveiling distant galaxies all share a secret? They’re woven by optical engineers—quiet magicians who wrestle light itself to shape our world. These aren’t just technicians tinkering with lenses. Optical engineers are architects who sculpt ephemeral light waves into real-world marvels, turning the intangible into the indispensable. They’re the reason you can FaceTime your family across continents, the reason doctors can see inside us without a scalpel, the reason we’ve glimpsed stars born billions of years ago. And yet, most of us never notice the brilliance behind the glow. Armed with a deep mastery of optical physics and a talent for orchestrating technology, materials, and budgets, they craft everything from medical laser systems to fiber optic networks. Their toolkit? A symphony of specialized software—simulating, designing, controlling—turning wild ideas into tangible wonders. Today, we shine a spotlight on our optical engineering services team and all optical engineers everywhere. They don’t just advance technology—they illuminate the edges of what’s possible. ?? ??Discover how our engineering team lights up the world: https://lnkd.in/emFdt_M #WorldEngineeringDay #OpticalEngineering #Innovation #Technology #Engineering

  • This article presents an advanced infrared search and track (IRST) system using image-spectrum collaborative detection to improve recognition of small, dynamic targets at long ranges. The system integrates an imaging channel with a spectrum-measuring channel, utilizing freeform surfaces and a dynamic Fourier transform spectrometer. LightTools was used for the optical design shown in Fig. 5, which includes (a) the 2D optical layout of the designed spectrum-measuring channel and (b) the 3D optical layout of the proposed IRST system. https://lnkd.in/g3MDR-yw Citation: Figure 5 from: Luo Gu, Qiujie Yang, Xiang Wang, Yue Lin, Zhiyuan Mao, and Zhiping He, "Infrared search and track system based on image-spectrum collaborative detection with improved recognition capability," Opt.
