Last week, despite the impending weather in Norfolk, the?Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) Propel Maritime Digital Defense Accelerator?in partnership with?Commander, Naval Information Forces (NAVIFOR)?hosted a Live Experimentation Event at ODU’s ODU Virginia Modeling, Analysis, & Simulation Center (VMASC), Suffolk. Over the past four months,?10 cutting-edge startups—XONA, ThermoAI, Project Castle (HIGHWAY Ventures),?Symbiosis.io, Forward Edge-AI, TeamWorx Security, Ryme Intelligence, NUTS Technologies, Galvanick, and FATHOM5—have engaged in both virtual and in-person programming to refine their technologies for defense applications. Last week, they showcased their solutions to key DoD stakeholders, commercial partners, and investors, who attended both in person and virtually. It was a privilege to host?Vice Admiral Michael Vernazza, Commander, Naval Information Forces (NAVIFOR) whose keynote underscored the vital role of collaboration and partnership in maintaining the?U.S. Navy’s dominance—ensuring it remains?ready to deter aggression, safeguard freedom of the seas, and respond to any challenge. By aligning cutting-edge innovation with real-world DoD mission needs, DIU Propel helps accelerate the transition of critical technologies to the warfighter. Symbiosis.io was proud to showcase our innovative solution with partners VANTIQ and Animate Cyber at the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) and NSIN - National Security Innovation Network Capstone Demonstration event at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA on Wednesday. The event, in collaboration with Decisive Point and Neptune SHIELD Tech Hub highlighted the future of national security through advanced technology and a gathering of brilliant minds. Notably, opening speaker Vice Admiral Michael Vernazza, Commander, Naval Information Forces, emphasized three key priorities for his Big Idea Project: ?? Accelerating Technological Advancements to enable rapid deployment of innovative solutions. ?? Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships to leverage the best of both sectors. ?? Building a Resilient Workforce to empower the next generation in addressing defense challenges. Beyond technology display, the event aimed at advancing the mission of securing the nation's future. Propel, a program under NSIN - National Security Innovation Network’s Venture Portfolio, partners with commercial startup accelerators to mature dual-use companies swiftly. This collaborative effort de-risks the exploration of emerging technology, expediting the development of solutions relevant to the US Department of Defense.
