Brandy Freitas - thanks go to you and the syGlass, Inc team for helping us use the virtual reality system in our Marine Biological Laboratory courses (from high school, to undergrads, to grad students and postdocs). Imaging plays an important part in many of them, and the syGlass system really helps the students engage with the data they have collected. In this case the high school students carried out their own dissections, fixation, and stainings, and then imaged their own samples on a ZEISS Microscopy confocal.
Happy #3DThursday! Okay, so you're looking at a zebrafish confocal image, and it's beautiful, but did you also know that you are looking at something that a high school freshman imaged???? We had the opportunity last week to visit the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole to see one of their one of their High School Science Discovery Programs. In addition to ex vivo dissections in the lab, the students had the opportunity to make their own 3D reconstructions of Zebrafish (which they labeled themselves!!) -- you can see here labeling of the axons in green, notochord in red, nuclei in blue, and musculature in pink, and we had the awesome job of getting them into syGlass, Inc for the students to literally walk through their own specimens. It was so fun, I hope they all become scientists! Imaged by: Nipam Patel and the Shanghai Star-River Bilingual School students!
