If you're hiring your first VP of Sales, chances are you're going to make one of these mistakes: 1. Hiring a VP of Sales who doesn't truly understand your product in the process: This is the most common mistake founders make. You can't expect that they'll join and learn more about the product as they go, especially if it's a technical or development-heavy product. You can’t afford to hire someone just because they know how to talk about the sales process, contracts, or give discounts. It’s critical they understand the product before they start and how it solves real- customer problems. 2. Hiring a VP of Sales Who’s Done Selling: It's understandable to not want to sell anymore. But if they don’t want to personally close deals, especially in the first quarter, they won't be able to learn the product or or master the specific playbook. Sales leaders need to close deals themselves to understand the customer’s pain points and refine the sales process. 3. Hiring a VP of Sales Who Won't Visit Customers: Some leaders may prefer to stay home, but that won’t cut it outside of SMBs. Mid-market and enterprise sales require face-to-face meetings—whether it's dinner events or conferences. They need to go and meet customers, and you must state this in the hiring process. 4. Hiring a Cynical VP of Sales: Beware of candidates who are cynical about startups, tech, or sales. Cynicism leads to toxic environments, and you want leaders who are still passionate about sales, not burnt out. 5. Hiring a VP of Sales Based on Their Previous Company: Don’t get blindsided by big logos. Just because someone worked at a well-known company doesn’t mean they’re the right fit for your business.. Make sure they understand your product, want to lead, and meet all the other criteria, regardless of where they’ve worked before. You don't want your VPs to end up in a similar conversation here after all. ?? Image Credits: Overheard Sales

Jason M. Lemkin mentioned: ~ In B2B SaaS, there will be AI Parity in 2025. ~ In 2023, only a few SaaS vendors?truly?added AI to their products. ~ In 2024, most vendors have integrated AI and are continuing to learn, iterate, and improve, while closely watching their competitors. In 2025, many B2B SaaS companies will offer similar AI functionalities while their implementation and level of accuracy will vary. So when everything is looking identical, how do you know what to choose for your business? Find out their AI parity with the competition based on these key factors: 1. Accuracy Customers are tired of AI that’s "almost right." The difference between AI that helps and AI that frustrates often comes down to accuracy. Whether it’s automating tasks, predicting trends, or personalizing experiences, AI needs to deliver precise results. Fewer errors mean better outcomes, and that’s what will set a business apart from the competition. Subpar tools lead to subpar results. 2. Reliability Don’t settle for tools, which works?sometimes or even “most of the times” for that matter. You need consistency and assurance that the AI will perform as promised, every time. It’s important to understand how frequently updates are made, whether downtime is reported, and if the AI consistently operates without glitches. 3. Privacy AI processes large volumes of data, and how a vendor protects that data is crucial. Look for detailed privacy protocols, clear policies on data handling, and transparency. Trust is built through secure and responsible data practices. 4. Ease of Managing Permissions: AI in the wrong places can lead to operational risks and embarrassment. (If you know what we are talking about? ??) Complicated settings or hidden permissions are a red flag. During your trial or while speaking with vendors, ensure that managing permissions and settings is straightforward and gives you full control. You’ll realize, how less frustrating it’ll make your life. Quote credits Yamini Rangan:

Sales = Relationships. And, No algorithm can entirely replace the empathy, intuition, and creativity of a human salesperson. However, AI can improve your Customer Relationships at every touchpoint. Here’s how: 1. Personalize every touchpoint for all your prospects: AI enables hyper-personalization at scale. Your digital assistant remembers the client’s preferences, past interactions, and unique needs. AI analyzes historical data and trends to make educated predictions about a customer's next move. Predictive analytics helps you leverage AI-powered insights to track deal progress, identify at-risk deals, and provide actionable intelligence across the sales team. Tools like Salesforce & Clari are doing great here. 3. Know your clients at the tip of your fingers with AI-powered CRM: You have an instant call and you don’t remember many details. You can’t as well swipe through the entire call recording. While AI here can auto-fill your CRM. Features like Sybill's Deal Dashboard give you a quick overview of every detail of your prospect. We wanted to make highly accurate sales summaries both accessible and affordable for everyone. Whether you're a new founder or growing your business, you deserve summaries that capture key sales context and keep your client's voice at the center. While the market is crowded with notetaking tools, finding one that prioritizes sales context and generates personalized, action-driven follow-up emails is still rare. After all, cute details like your client’s kid's birthday might be fun, but they won’t close deals. Check out Sybill with a free 14-day trial! (Link in comments)
