Happy Pi Day (3/14)! ???? Do you know about the surprisingly Swiss history of pi? ?? Since antiquity, scholars have been approximating the ratio between the circumference and diameter of a circle. But it was 18th-century Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler who popularized the use of the Greek letter ?? to refer to the mathematical constant. ?? In 1768, another Swiss mathematician, Johann Lambert, was the first to prove that pi is an irrational number – its decimal sequence is infinite and non-repeating. ?? And in 2021, researchers at the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons in Chur, Switzerland, set a record by calculating 62.8 trillion digits of pi, the calculation taking more than 108 days. ?? Do you know what else is irrational and infinite? Our love of pie! #PiDay #?? #SwissScience #math #pie
