Swisher traces its roots back to 1861 when David Swisher received a small cigar business in settlement of a debt. Over the past 162 years it has remained a family-owned company. By 1924 Swisher was already an industry leader when it relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where it continues to operate nearly 100 years later. Today, Swisher has a manufacturing presence stretching from Jacksonville, Florida, Wheeling, West Virginia, Santiago, Dominican Republic, and Estelí, Nicaragua.

In 1923, Swisher introduced the first rolling machines for cigars. In 1958, the iconic Swisher Sweets brand debuted - and remains the industry leader today. In 2014, Swisher acquired premium cigar maker and Miami-based Drew Estate Tobacco Company.
