How an 8-Year-Old Payments Company (Swipesum) Became a "Top 50 Trending Startup" SEO: A Long Game. It's Not About Tricks... It's About Trust. Since 2018, we chased every SEO hack in the book. We always had a Wash U intern working on content, running interviews, and posting. We tried keyword stuffing, backlink blitzes, and endless tweaks. The result? Minimal impact. The Turning Point In mid-2024, as CEO, I took full ownership of our SEO and PR strategy. Instead of outsourcing to a junior employee or working with freelancers, I worked directly with internal and external experts, (most notably NPAccel) to develop a content plan rooted in real value. The key difference? Sharing real insights from working with clients, fresh perspectives, and building trust. What Changed? ~ Quality Over Quantity: We shifted focus to refreshing old content to keep it relevant, invested in custom creative, and prioritized thought leadership over promotional content. The goal? Helping merchants solve real problems. ~ Authority Building: (This happened naturally, but it helped!) We earned recognition: ranking on the Inc. 5000 list for multiple years and being named the #1 Merchant Services Provider by Entrepreneur Media. ~ Adapting to Google’s Updates: We embraced Google's March 2024 core update, which prioritized high-quality content and penalized low-value SEO tactics. This shook the payments industry, which had been dominated by affiliate and agent-run content. They used to own the first few pages of search results... now, they're buried.
